The Prevalence of Using Mobile Health Apps to Enhance Physical Activity in University

Students.

1. Introduction
People's health and wellbeing can be significantly improved by exercise and other
physical activity. Studies have shown that including physical activity in your daily
routine reduces your risk of depression, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and chronic
illnesses like hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and cancer by up to 39%. (such as breast
and colon cancer). On the other hand, a reduced level of physical activity in daily life
is linked to a 52 percent increased chance of passing away from various causes and a
29 percent increased risk of passing away from cancer. Developing a healthy lifestyle,
maintaining a healthy weight, and engaging in regular physical activity are some of
the key recommendations for preventing cancer.
1.1 Research Background
Software applications for mobile devices are called mobile applications. There are
many health and fitness applications available nowadays. Currently, users may rapidly
search for up to 165,000 various types of health and fitness programmes on the Apple
Store and Google Play. In 2015, more than a third of the 1.4 billion smartphone users
will use some sort of mobile health application, predicts the Global Mobile Health
Market Report 2010-2015. Furthermore, from 2013 to 2017, users who need to
download the health and wellness application climbed from 1.7 billion to 3.7 billion,
according to the global downloads of m-Health apps. However, mobile health and
wellness tracking applications have become very popular since they make it easier to
maintain health and give people more power to participate.

The target participants of this research is UTAR students.
The unit of study in this research is individual. So, respondents were adults age
between 18 to 30 years old.
1.7 Significance of Study
This research studied the factors towards the adoption of m-Health apps. The factors
were relative advantage, perceived ease of use, compatibility, observability,
trialability and perceived risk. By identifying factors toward adoptions of m-Health
apps, it can benefit software developers to improve their apps. Generally, users
choose an application that is user friendly and fulfil their specifications. M-Health
apps are much more needed in today busy working society. By knowing users’
specifications of m-Health apps, it will increase usage and can facilitate our society to
maintain good and healthy lifestyles. Besides, apps developers can gain more profit
from huge subscriptions.
