adjust the knob +V in such a way to read on the multimeter a voltage value equal to 12V;
put the magnaprobe on the coil end;
switch off for an instant the circuit by means of the pushbutton S1 and observe the shift of the
magnaprobe magnet: this is attracted by the magnetic field generated by the coil and it begins
rotating around its axis for inertia;
during the magnet rotation push now and then for some instants the pushbutton S1 in such a way
to provoke a continuous motion of the magnet;
observe the magnet pole generated by the coil and the rotation direction of the magnaprobe
magnet;
connect the circuit as it is shown in Fig. 7.2b;
repeat the operations of the previous points and observe what happens;
compare and comment the results;
QUESTIONS

If the current in the solenoid is inverted the magnet:

Turns faster
Answer:
Turns slower

It goes on turning but the rotation depends on the magnet position

The magnet rotation depends:

On the current direction in the solenoid

Answer:
On the current intensity

On the value of the voltage applied to the solenoid

TROUBLESHOOTING

Push the INSERT button to insert the fault in the circuit.

Repeat the operations in the EXPERIMENTATION section to find the fault inserted in the circuit.
Which is the fault ?

Short-circuited coil

Interrupted coil Answer:

R1 short-circuited
