WEEK 6: BULK TRANSPORT IN CELLS

Bulk Transport Gaining Mastery

1. How does endocytosis work in the entry of the virus to the host cell?
The large Spike (S) glycoproteins are used by viruses for their
attachment, fusion, and entry into the host human cell. They bind to the
receptors of the cell membrane which convinces the cell that the virus is
not a threat, and then the cell ingests the virus through in a process
known as endocytosis. This process is a fundamental cellular activity that
is utilized by a majority of virus families to introduce their genetic
material to the cell interior. The virus hijacks the endocytic mechanism of
the host cell, and it infiltrates the host cell by releasing the genome of the
virus once it’s inside the cytoplasm.

2. How will your knowledge in this lesson help you to stay safe during this
pandemic?
Being knowledgeable about the mechanism of the virus itself that
may be infecting our body will be a huge help in gaining awareness about
the danger of its condition rather than simply knowing its outer effects to
the human body. It also helps me understand why it is really the most
important to strengthen my immunity during this pandemic. In addition to
that, my knowledge in this lesson will also help me become more
cooperative with the authorities and follow the safety protocols more
seriously by understanding the mechanism of infection or contamination
of the virus to people.
