EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

America as a society is addicted to being online. I heard a statistic on the radio the other day that stated the average American has 12 different accounts online. We spend countless hours at work, school, and personally on the internet and rarely do we ask ourselves, how is my online presence affecting me? My name is Rebecca Anderson and this project will take a look at my future professional goals. It will also take a look at my current digital identities, or lack thereof, and analyze the relationship between the two. Finally, it will conclude on summarizing my strength and highlighting areas that I need to improve upon.

MY FUTURE PROFESSIONAL SELF

I have been a licensed real estate agent for over 2 years now and after I graduate I have an offer to be a full time agent at Keller Williams. My plan is to master this part of my career so that I can pay off my student debt and eventually become a real estate investor. I am interested in commercial as well as residential real estate and property management. Since I have been a property manager for over 5 years in the apartment industry this will not be too large of a jump. I want to be a real estate investor because I plan on having children but also maintaining a career. This would allow me to be an active mother while still contributing to my familys income and success. I would maintain an office as to research deals, conduct phone clerical work, and have my meetings/ conference calls. Also I would be out on site managing the properties for a good portion of my time. Since this is a self employed position there is no one to evaluate me in regards to hiring but my clients are essential my bosses. They will be looking to do business with a person who is dependable, fiscally responsible, prompt, and friendly.

JOBS I WOULD APPLY FOR

Commercial Property Manager: Thompson National Properties This is a full time position that requires 5-7 years experience as well as managerial experience. This salary plus commission position reports directly to the VP of property management. A real estate license is mandatory. Maintaining the physical asset, revenue management, and financial reporting and control are all functions of this job. Real Estate Agent: Keller Williams This positions pay structure is strictly commission. It requires a real estate license and a hard work ethic. Keller Williams is the 2nd highest real estate company internationally agents receive training by top producers in the industry. This would be a self managed position and it is up to the individual to build their own buisness. Commercial Real Estate Agent: Phoenix Realty Advisors, Inc. This is a full time position that requires both a college degree as well as a real estate license. It is client based and I would be helping the tenants instead of being on the side of the owners of the real estate. Skills required for this job are business to business marketing, computer and finance skills, as well as sales experience. It does not have a high salary as most of the income is based on commissions but the ad expresses that after 2 years the average salary is 75,000+.

ANALYSIS OF 3 PROFESSIONALS ON LINKEDIN

Wayne Miller: Real Estate Investor/Entrepreneur Wayne is a real estate investor that has 35 years experience in sales, marketing and management. He offered summary but states that he has highly developed communication and listening skills developed over 35 years business career. His interests include enterprise requests and consulting offers. Arlene Day: Entrepreneur, Investor and Specialist in Real Estate Arlene is a real estate investor. She only has a high school education which surprised me but she seems by her 406 connections to be very successful. I followed her linkedin account to her personal website which boasts that she has extensive experience in real estate flipping, sales, and investing. I was disappointed by her linkedin account but since it linked to more information it seemed to possibly work for her. Andrew Monaghan: Associate Broker, Keller Williams Andrew Monaghan is also a agent at Keller Williams and is also a committee member of the fiesta bowl. He has been a full time agent since 2001 and has had a focus on his clients. He has gone above and beyond his recognition as an agent to receive a CRS, GRI, and EPRO as well as broker license. It is apparent that he values education through the Industry.

CRITERIA TO EVALUATE PEOPLE IN THIS INDUSTRY

y y y y Are they a licensed real estate agent? If so how long? Are they a licensed broker? If so how long? How many deals have they closed in the last month? What different associations are they a member of and to what existent are they evolved? y Do they work in a team or individually? If in a team how large and are they the leader?

THE CURRENT ME
After conducting multiple online searches using google, bing, and yahoo, there are no links that are related to me specifically My name is very common and there is at least two actresses, a writer and a videographer that inundate my search results however there is no links to me. I did try to minimize my search by adding my middle name. hometown, and even workplaces with no luck. Although I have a facebook account I have it marked as unsearchable and there are hundred if not thousands of Rebecca Andersons result when Rebecca Anderson facebook, is searched. As I have been very deliberate to try and minimize my online exposure up until now, I cannot say that I am shocked. I understand that in the professional aspect of things this could be a downfall however my personal life and privacy come first. When I become a real estate agent and name recognition is important to my business I will work hard to gain an online presence and manage it so that only professional links can be viewed, but until then, I am very happy not to have an online presence. In fact most of the accounts I have had to start as a result of this class will be discontinued after I have received my final grade.

CONCLUSIONS: BRIDGING THE GAP

What have I learned? First off several strengths have come to light. I feel I already fully qualify for most of the positions that I am seeking. Already having earned my real estate license as well as having a tremendous amount of sales experience for my age definitely gives me a leg up. This is encouraging and I know that the only reason I have not begun my career is that I am waiting to finish my degree. As frustrating as that is, it is the right decision long term and will open doors down the road. Plus after graduation I will be even more marketable since a portion of my degree in is management. Managers who are formally trained in group as well as workplace sociology are valuable to large firms who run team real estate operations so my degree will be a great asset. As much confidence as I have, this project has also shed light on weaknesses I will need to overcome. The fact that I am virtually invisible will not be good for business when I am trying to get my name out there. I will need to develop my own website and possible use search optimization techniques. Also, constant contact emails as well as a real estate blog are also both ideas to consider. Doing these things will help me grow my brand. Another weakness I have the opportunity to rectify is my participation in social media. Currently I barely facebook and have never been on twitter. When SRP had transformers blow up and black outs happen in the city,

there choice of communicating to keep their customers as well as the media informed was twitter. I need to recognize that social media does not have to be an invasion of privacy and instead have those accounts strictly for professional uses. I need to cater to my clients and how they like to receive information. With a positive attitude and commitment to work on my weaknesses as well as the confidence to show off my strengths, I know I can achieve my goals. I have no doubt I will be a success and if life throws me a curve ball, I can always use this method of analysis in any career or direction that I choose.
