ABSTRACT

The objective of the research was to identify the level of knowledge about syphilis in young adults who
attend the Domingo Savio parish medical clinic, Los Guandules, in the period August-September
2022. An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out with prospective data
collection. The study population consisted of 230 young adults between 18 and 15 years of age. The
sample was 60 young adults. The instrument used was a questionnaire that had questions about the
general data of the young people and 16 closed questions with alternatives. Sociodemographic
characteristics were determined such as: age, sex, origin, education, socioeconomic level,
occupation, among others. 91% reported having low knowledge of syphilis; 55% corresponded to the
female sex; 22.4% expressed knowing about generalities of syphilis. 3.1 presented an average
knowledge of signs and symptoms; 10% expressed knowledge of signs and symptoms. 16% stated
that they knew of the prevention mechanism. 4% of young people have a good level of knowledge
about syphilis. A high percentage of young people surveyed have a low level of knowledge about
syphilis; the greatest precariousness is presented in clinical manifestations and the signs and
symptoms of said disease.
