FROM THE COMPANY PERSPECTIVE

5.1. Problems encountered by the company regarding the development/production and the
marketing/commercialization of the product
It was not quite easy to bring the product to the public. It required clinical validation, exploration
of hundreds of eye conditions (an incredibly complex exercise), and perfection of the device to be
worn all day. Over the past decade, there have been tens of millions of dollars invested into
R&D, numerous technological iterations, rounds of user testing, various clinical trials, and an
intensive clinical validation process, to create the breakthrough technology that eSight is today.
All of this progress has enabled eSight to work successfully for over 50 disabling eye conditions,
and therefore, the majority of individuals experiencing legal blindness.
5.2. Proposed solutions to increase product profitability
Understandably, not everyone can afford this life-changing technology. For individuals interested
in getting eSight but who cannot be accommodated by eSight’s flexible payment options,
eSight’s Affordability Advocates will do all that they can to help raise the necessary funds. This
may include helping the individual to identify public and private sector sources of funding,
government programs, tax credits, employer or educational contributions, clinical study
discounts, donations from service organizations and religious groups and media outreach.
Prospective eSight users can create their own fundraising page on eSight’s proprietary and fee-
free fundraising platform. Here, individuals wanting eSight can share their page with anyone they
want to collect donations from, with zero fees taken from eSight. Every dollar raised will go
towards getting their eSight.

5.3. Proposed solution of new product features in order to increase the number of
customers
As Markowitz S.N. suggests, low vision rehabilitation is nowadays a recognized discipline in
ophthalmology, improving the quality of life of numerous visually impaired patients.
With advances in science, medicine and public health policy, help for the blind expanded its
reach to all who were visually impaired.
Consequently, in recent years, eSight Corp has as main objective continuing the investment in the
R&D sector in order to improve its products and deliver quality and efficiency, thus remaining
faithful to their belief: “Everyone deserves to see.”
CONCLUSIONS

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) even though the prevalence of vision
impairment has decreased since 1990 (mainly due to overall social development, increased
availability of eye care services, awareness of the general population about solutions to the
problems related to vision impairment) it is estimated that in the coming years the number of
people with vision impairment could triple due to the growth of ageing population.

A statistics provided by WHO shows that globally the number of people of all ages visually
impaired is estimated to be 285 million, of whom 39 million are blind. The major causes of visual
impairment are uncorrected refractive errors (43%) and cataract (33%) while the first cause of
blindness being cataract (51%). Visual impairment represents nowadays a major global health
issue: the preventable causes are as high as 80% of the total global burden.

The product we chose (eSight) comes to help those in need, addressing mainly to those who live
with a variety of conditions such as: cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular
fegeneration, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), Stargardt's Disease, optic neuritis and many
more. While it cannot help those who are profoundly or totally blind, eSight significantly
improves the lives of visually impaired by giving them hope and a chance to see the world
putting thus in practice the fundamental right to see.
