HIGH TO VERY HIGH FLOODING EXPECTED IN RIVER INDUS DURING NEXT 24 HOURS Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has informed that because of the latest Hydro- Meteorological conditions and releases of water from the TARBELA DAM, River Indus at KALABAGH, CHASHMA and TAUNSA may attain HIGH TO VERY HIGH FLOOD Level ranging between 5,50,000 CCusecs to 7,00,000 Cusecs from 1200 PST of 27-08-2022 to 1200 PST of 28-08-2022. Additionally, VERY HIGH level flooding is expected in River Kabul at Nowshera (up to 300,000 cusecs) and Tributaries of Rivers Kabul & Indus during next 48-hours, LOW TO MEDIUM Level Flooding is expected in the Hill Torrents of DG Khan Division during next 24-hours. Possible Impacts: ‘= Mianwall, Bhakkar OG Khan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur and RY Khan Districts likely to be affected, ‘+ The water level in the streams connected to Koh-e- Suliman, Salt Range and outtall drains linked to the Rivers/Hil Torrents may soar causing flood in the area. Precautionary Measures: Immediate mobilization and advance placement of Flood Fighting and Rescue & Relief teams with all Required Machinery and Equipment on identified suitable site. Provision of food hampers for stranded families. Evacuation of Livestock and provision of fodder/ concentrated fodder Arrangement for vaccination of livestock should be in place, in advance. The residents of most vulnerable areas should be shifted to temporary relief camps/safe places as and when required Necessary arrangements for provision of cooked food by District Administration should be ensured in relief camps. In order to avoid epidemic diseases, medical teams be mobilized for provision of first aid to the affectees ensuring documentation and reporting of health problems being reported among affected population In order to avoid electric shock, necessary arrangements with WAPDA authorities should be made on priority on regular basis, Continuous monitoring of the Flood impact and Rescue and Relief operations should be ensured and gaps and achievements be documented to improve upon the response strategy ‘The DEOCs to be strengthened for communication with field teams and with Divisional and Provincial Authorities, as well as consolidating data of the damages, rescue and relief operations for effective execution of Plans seeking support and advice from higher offices and relevant Support’ Aid Agencies.
