Causes and Effects of Bullying

Bullying has become common nowadays especially in school. There are several causes or
reasons why a student practices bullying. One of them is picking a victim who is weak and cannot fight
him back. The bully chooses a certain target because he believes that he is stronger than his chosen
victim but the truth is he is the weak one because he targets someone who is weaker than him, not
someone who he thinks is stronger compared to him. He is protecting his pride and ego so he picks the
victim who has no match for him. Another reason is that the bully wants attention. He may lack love and
care from his parents or he does not have any friends. His need for attention pushes him to hurt
someone so that he will be noticed. Also one of the factors that urges a person to bully someone is the
lack of proper guidance from his parents who will tell him that bullying is bad and he must not do it. Not
having a good role model makes him think that bullying is okay and it is not a bad thing at all. Another
cause of bullying is that the bully also once was bullied. He wants to take revenge in the form of bullying
too and let other people experience what he had suffered in the past.

On the other hand, bullying has serious effects to its victims. The bullied may suffer from
physical and emotional pain. The bullying that a victim had received will cause him a lot of stress and
trauma and it will eventually lead to depression. This depression can bring many negative effects but the
worst is suicide. There are some reports regarding to suicide cases caused by bullying. It may not just
hurt someone but it can also kill a person.
