* Discriminant (∆) = 𝑏 − 4𝑎𝑐

If discriminant (∆ < 0) = have no real root = graph no x-intercept
If discriminant (∆ = 0) = have double real root (only one root) = graph have 1 x-intercept
If discriminant (∆ > 0) = have 2 real root = graph 2 x-intercept

(solve the equation = find the root)
Example: Form a quadratic equation in x with roots –2 and 4.
Sum of root: 2, product of root: -8
2
𝑥 − (𝑠𝑢𝑚 𝑜𝑓 𝑟𝑜𝑜𝑡)𝑥 + (𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑟𝑜𝑜𝑡) = 0
2
Ans: 𝑥 − 2𝑥 − 8 = 0
