ACHIEVEMENTS OF DR. A.

JAYAKUMAR SHETTY PROGRAMME OFFICER, NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME SRI DHARMASTHALA MANJUNATHESHWARA COLLEGE, UJIRE 574240, D.K., KARNATAKA STATE.
NSS officer is trained at TOC, Mysore(1999) and served as the course co-ordinator for NSS Officers Training at Ujire (1999). During the year 1999-2002, the NSS unit over achieved the enrollment targets, conducted annual special camps and achieved enrollment and camping targets fully and consistently. Under VAS, Kumbarakeri is adopted and organised regularly awareness and community help programmes Maleria eradication, family health, AIDS awareness, child Care, Women health and created durable assets like approach road, Playground, Drainage, Toilet pits. To accomplish NSS targets and spread the message of NSS among the volunteers, youth and public at large 57(99-00), 99(2000-01) and 102(2001-02) programmes were organised focussing on environment, health, education, community help and awareness. Environment: * Consistently organised Environment Enrichment Programmes and planted 2005(1999-00), 2265(2000-01) and 1975(2001-02) saplings at the NSS Vana, near by school campuses, society forestry and roadside. Distributed 4000 saplings during 2001-02 under special programme at Bangady. * Considering the NSS Theme and local problem of depleting water table demonstration plots of watershed management is created coving 10 acres (1999-00) 8 acres(2000-01), 9 acres(2001-02) at various part of Belthangady taluk under the guidance of Dept. of watershed. *Consistently organised an integrated environment awareness programme in association with the local organisation at Bangady covering 4 schools and public benefiting about 2000 peoples. Health: Organised malaria Awareness (2001-02), Family Health(2000) awareness programmes at Ujire and the adopted village. In order to create awareness and motivate the beediworks to use preventive masks against Work hazards health checkup camps are regularly organised and freely distributed 2000 masks worth of Rs. 10,000/=

constantly organising blood donation camps, donated 184 units (1999) 214 units (2000), anjd 192 units (2001), won the D.K. DISTRICT LEVEL BEST UNIT AWARD in blood donation (2000) and set up SDM NSS Helpline to respond to blood needs. * Dental checkup/Treatment camps in Kokkada(2000), Balenja(2000), Padmunja(2001), Kanarpa(2001) benefited 300 patients. TB checkup camps, petcare camps are regularly organized at the adopted village and nearby villages. Under UTA phase II, AIDS awareness programme is organized(2001) at the community and college level, and actively involved in the pulse Polio progreamme.

Community Help Programmes At Shibaje school (1999) approximately worth Rs. 42000 asset was created by extending the playground by 1100 sq.mts, creating a road and by creating a site for PHC.. * At Balenja(2000) through 1450 mandays work, approximates worth Rs. 58,000 asset war created by extending the playground, constructing the compound wall, road, compost pit and a watershed Mgt demonstration plot.. * At Padmunja(2001) through 700 mandays of work, approximately worth Rs. 67,200 asset was created.. * Dugs and toilet pits at Kodman(2000) 4 at Puduvettu(2001) 2 at theadopted villages(2001).. * Created Housesits at Indabettu(2000) and Patrame(2001). Awareness: Organized district/taluk level cycle jatha(1999,2000,2001) for AIDS awareness, regularly invited to present educational/cultural programmes at Alchohol deddiation camps, distributed bread and fruits at TB Sanatorium(2001) and organised 5 days individual development programmes at Shibaje(1999), Balenja(2000) and Padmunja(2001) benefited about 250 children. Educational: Constantly organised legal aid camps, women empowerment camps, self employeement prgrammes, agricultural extension, personality development etc to the public and the volunteers actively involved in the biodivercity documentation programme.

UNIVERSITY/STATE/NATIONAL LEVEL PROGRAMME:

Organized university level programmes National Youth Week(2000,2001), National Integration weeks(2000), Training of volunteers for mass literacy(2001), peer educators (2001) and community leadeers (2001) training programme under UTA.

Organized a State level NSS officers training(10 days) programme(1999). Organized a unique self- financing Cultural Exchange Programme for National Integration (2001) inviting 2 NSS teams from Maharastra and Kerala State. *Officiated University level selection camps (June 99,2000 & 2001), NI camp at Mangalore Universty (2001) State Festival (2001). Led the NSS team to NI camp(1999) at Chenganoor and got Best Contingent Award. Volunteers attended state RD parade (1999,2001) and National RD parade (2000) Two volunteers bagged Best Male volunteer Award at NI camps at Chenganoor (1999) and Wayned (2001) Two volunteers won Best Volunteers of the State Award 2000-01 and 2001-2002. Consistently organized meaningful programmes focussing on environment, awareness

and community help leading to asset creation by establishing linkages with the various government departments, elected bodies, NGOs as well as local organizations. NSS officer is being recognized as a trainer for community development projects, as a resource person for AIDS awareness, Women empowerment, watershed management, environmental awareness and facilitator for SHGs in the surrounding areas. AWARDS: Awarded BEST NSS OFFICER OF THE STATE AWARD for the year 20012002 by the Youth services Department, Government of Karnataka on 27th January 2003 and forwarded for INDIRA GANDHI NSS NATIONAL AWARD for the year 2001-2002, to be awarded by the DEPARTMENT OF YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS, MINISTRY OF YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS, GOVERNMENT OF INDIA, NEW DEHLI.
