Licensing means the owner or creator of the copyright holds ownership but he can
authorizes a third party to perform certain acts which covered by his exclusive economic
rights, usually for a specific period of time and for a specific purpose. For example, the
author of a novel may grant a license to a publis her to make and distribute copies of the
novel in the market. At the same time, the author may grant a license to a film producer to
make a film based on the novel.
Licensing means the owner of the copyright retains ownership but authorizes a third party to
carry out certain acts covered by his economic rights for a specific period of time and for a
specific purpose.
The procedure of the licensing is provided under Sections (48-54) of the copyright act, 2000.
