Reflection – Jessica Paldino

 As a teacher, what was your biggest challenge while planning the lesson?
 The biggest challenge while planning this lesson was making sure the students
understand what they were supposed to be learning.
 As a teacher, what challenges did you face when trying to teach your lesson/content
to the class?
 Communication with the students while also teaching. Also understanding that
some students understood more Spanish then over students
 Relying on their peers - community learning
 What did you do to “overcome” these challenges?
 My group had to think outside the box to overcomes the challenges and to make
sure we were being understood. I thought about what I learned before for students
who don’t speak English and pictures was the first thing that came to my mind.
 As a teacher, how did this activity simulate trying to instruct one or more ELL
students in your classroom?  How did you use "language" in your instruction?
 We use pictures, sounds and Spanish. This activity made me think about ELL
learners and how you need to make sure they are included in every lesson you
teach.
 As a student, what did you rely on most to comprehend what was being taught?
 I rely on facial emotions and movement especially when I didn’t understand the
language. I also rely on my classmates because some of them understood it more
than I did
 As part of the "class", how can you relate this activity to the experience of ELL
students in an English-speaking classroom?
 You can relate this activity to the experience of ELL students in an English-
speaking classroom because I understand English and that is my first language so
when that was taken away, I felt lost and like I was falling be hide. I think this
activity allowed me to see how ELL students feel in a classroom without their
main and first language
 Overall, what do you think was the purpose of this activity?
 To put ourselves in ELL learner’s shoes and feel what they feel every day.

Words I used a lot

 How you or they feel in the classroom
