included with the software package. If any conflicts exist, the Release Notes supersede the other

1.1 Release Notes revision history

Revision date Sections revised Description of revisions

2022-08-19 First release. All new content.

2 About OpenText Imaging Windows Viewer and

DesktopLink 22.4
This section provides an overview of OpenText Imaging Windows Viewer and DesktopLink 22.4.

Windows Viewer displays archived documents on the user's workstation. It provides functions for
attaching notes and annotations and printing and checking the authenticity of the documents. It also
enables the standard TWAIN interface to scan and immediately archive individual documents.

DesktopLink can be used to archive files quickly and easily from your workstation. You can also
retrieve previously archived documents. To do this, DesktopLink uses the Open Document
Management API (ODMA) interface integrated in the systems based on the OpenText Archive Center.
You can select whether you want to archive the file in its original format or in TIFF or PDF format.

Viewers are used in various products, which provide the interface for the end user. Some client
components are installed on every user's desktop using the following products:

• OpenText Archiving and Document Access for SAP Solutions

• OpenText Extended ECM for SAP Solutions
• OpenText Content Server

2.1 New features

OpenText Imaging Windows Viewer and DesktopLink 22.4 includes the following new features.

Support for the PNG format

Windows Viewer now supports viewing and archiving PNG format files.

Archive Center and SAP GUI.

• SSL (Secure Socket Layer) communication

SSL is not supported by SAP R/3 version 4.6. It should be activated only if the encryption of
network traffic is explicitly desired because it decreases the performance of OpenText
Content Server.

• SecKeys
SecKeys and IX_HTTP1 protocol are only supported with Internet Explorer 10.0 and higher.

5 Installation and upgrade notes

This section provides additional installation and upgrade information, including related or third-party
product information and any required critical patches.

5.1 Installation notes

Before you install OpenText Imaging Windows Viewer and DesktopLink, review these additional
installation notes and verify related product or third-party product requirements.

Mode of Installation Description

must be of the same version – 22.4.

Central software distribution Supported central software distribution tools are

Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS), ON
Command CCM (CCM), and Active Directory
IntelliMirror.

For more information, see the OpenText Imaging

Windows Viewer and DesktopLink Installation and
Administration Guide.

Install.ini file The .ini file for silent installation is no longer

distributed along with the ISO because the “ISO”
delivery mode is discarded, and the product is

Viewer and DesktopLink CE 22.4 Installation Guide.
Administrators can copy the content in a text file and
use it for the silent installation.

OpenText Imaging Windows Viewer and DesktopLink 22.4 Release Notes 9

Mode of Installation Description

Install.ini file Due to increased security enforced by the

IntelliMirror deployment infrastructure, the following
features of the silent installation cannot be used:

• The “Add Project” section in the install.ini

files to execute additional applications after
the installation.
• When installing the “Save to SAP” scenario,
the saplogon.ini file will not be modified with
values specified in the install.ini file.

Microsoft .NET Framework OpenText Imaging Windows Viewer and

DesktopLink requires Microsoft .NET Framework
version 4.0 or higher. The redistributable runtime
needs to be downloaded from the Microsoft site for
Windows versions older than 10.

Installation on Terminal Server To install Windows Viewer and DesktopLink on a

Terminal Server, it is necessary to switch the
Terminal Server mode to Install mode. Installing in
Remote Administration mode is not supported. For
more information, see the Microsoft documentation
on how to switch the Terminal Server mode.

It is not possible to install OpenText Imaging

Windows Viewer and DesktopLink on a computer
where IXOS ECR Integrator with Convertor or the
OpenText Archive Cache Server is installed.

5.2 Upgrade notes

Before you upgrade, review the following instructions.

Windows Viewer and DesktopLink CE 22.4 can be installed over the 21.4 version. The installer will
detect the upgrade mode and upgrade the version accordingly. If any older version of Windows
Viewer and DesktopLink exists, OpenText recommends manually uninstalling it before installing
version 22.4.

5.3 Windows Viewer 64bit installer UAC setting issue

The Windows Viewer 64-bit installer fails when the UAC settings are set above the ‘Never notify’ level.
To manage the scenario, use the following workaround:

Create the administrative installer (Base + Patch) and install Windows Viewer.

Notes editor and notes For SAP scenarios, traditional Notes are recommended whereas for other
format XML scenarios, the recommended Notes format is XML.

Traditional Notes and XML Notes cannot be combined in one document.

After you use the XML format, you cannot open the XML Note in the client
tool supporting traditional format only. This would result in data loss
because such a client would ignore the XML format and replace it with the
traditionally formatted Note.

Compatibility between From 10.0.0 version onwards, Windows Viewer supports UTF-8N encoding
older Notes for Traditional Notes by default, in accordance with SAP standards. The
UTF-8N encoded Notes created by either SAP or Windows Viewer 10.5.0
cannot be displayed properly by Windows Viewer version 9.5.x and older.

Concurrent usage of The UTF-8N Notes and ANSI Notes should not be mixed. If UTF-8N is
configured as the default code page for Traditional Notes, then all
ANSI and UTF-8N
OpenText viewer clients should use the same setting.
Traditional Notes should
be avoided If Windows Viewer is used with other OpenText Imaging Viewers, such as
Web Viewer, those applications also should be configured to use UTF8-N
as the default code page for Traditional Notes.

If ANSI and UTF-8N Notes are combined in Traditional Notes, the display
of such Notes will not be consistent, and they cannot be recovered.

Terminal Server Windows Viewer does not work if a user is signed in twice to one Terminal
Server with the same username.

Watermarks are not The postscript standard does not support transparency, which is a

drivers (printers) apply watermarks in printed documents. Use the option
"WaterMarkOutline=1" under the Watermarks section in the client

Size of the icon for OLE The size of the icon of an OLE annotation placed on a document depends
annotations varies on the default application associated with the type of OLE object (for
example, a PDF or Office file). Displaying the annotation is handled by
Windows and not by the viewer. The icon size may vary if the default

seen for OLE annotations that are PDF files.

OpenText Imaging DesktopLink
The following are the known issues in this release.

Issue Name Issue Description

Files within web-based DesktopLink does not work with files from within web-based applications,
applications for example, SharePoint Portal Server. The current implementation of
DesktopLink is designed for files that are stored in a file system and is not
designed for use with files that are accessed remotely. The added value of
such functionality is an issue for the Product Management to decide and
has been presented as a request.

Example:

If it is attempted to archive files from such a web-based application, a
