SECTION N° 4 CAMPANA G.I.I.

COMPRESSORS Section: 4 Page: 1 of 1

Date: September 1999

1. General
1.1 Compressors shall be specified in accordance with API Standards 617, 618 and 619, Exxon
International Practices and the following design guides.

1.2 Lube oil systems may be combined for several centrifugal compressors operating in the
same process unit.

1.3 Centrifugal compressors shall be furnished with vibration monitors and wear indicators.
Non-contacting devices are preferred.

1.4 A safety valve on the compressor discharge, set at a pressure lower than the maximum
possible discharge pressure, shall be provided to limit the pressure to which downstream
piping and equipment can be exposed. This safety valve setting will be the compressor
maximum case working pressure. The Contractor must provide the maximum design
pressure as defined by API Standard 617.

1.5 Options to improve safety and operability and to reduce maintenance and manning required
must be evaluated.

1.6 Compressors must be provided with facilities to prevent the entry of entrained liquids and
objects per IP 3-3-3 to IP 3-3-10.

1.7 Deleted.

1.8 Weld neck flanges shall be used on reciprocating compressor inlet, outlet and interstage
piping, snubbers, coolers and knock out drums. Welded-in contour inserts are required at
pulsation dampener nozzle connections.

1.9 Air services with atmospheric inlet should be specified for 100% humidity.

1.10 Contractor shall ensure that all parts of each compressor system do not exceed the noise
limitations of IP 2-1-1, and local regulations. Acoustical lagging may be required on inlet
and outlet piping and upstream/downstream of low flow recycle control valve.
