Prison is an effective punishment for people who break the law?

Nowadays the levels of crime are increasing, so I want to ask something: Is prison actually an effective way
to keep delinquency under control?

Some people might say that criminals should spend more years behind bars, as well that prisons should
develop better punishment ways like programs to help mental health, with that vandals will went straight.

Others might argue that people who commit ilegal activities like smuggling or murder will never change so
prison won’t change them. Also they claim heavier sentences for those dangerous people, including physical
punishment.

In my opinion violence is never a solution, so we have to support the system and their prisons because is the
only serious solution, believe in them.
