Another characteristic is that they have a weak backwash 2. A The soft rock, like sand and clay, erodes more quickly than those of more resistant rock, such as chalk. This leaves a section of land going into the sea called a headland. The areas where the soft rock has eroded away, next to the headland, are called bays. 3. A reason is the coast could have destructive wave, which have a stronger backwash, so the coast id taken away faster than that which has constructive waves. Coastal erosion can be faster on some coasts because the coast can be made out of soft rock which erodes quicker than hard rock. A different reason is because of weathering on-top of the rock which impacts the strength of the rock. A final reason may be due to the water eroding the rocks.
