Jonuary 17th, 1986
My dear Jerry Fngelbach,
Your very sweet and dear letter has
been buried in the avalanche of Christmas
matl so please forgive my belated ansuer
as well as my belated best New Year's
wishes to you and the SOHO REP,
When Mr. Griffith announced that he
wanted to film "Faust" we looked tt up
and found out thot it had alunys beena
hox office logser., On the other had,
STho Two Orphans” had always been a winner
and we took Mr. Griffith dom to 14th
Street to see an Italian verston that
was then playing - hence the enormous
successful film vs. what most likely
would have been a failure. D. W. ws
indeed a genius but I still have my
doubts about "Faust."
with my every fond wish to you and
your company.
Most earnestly,
