Include an example in which the government has used either economic or social regulatory activities. Do you agree with this regulatory activity? Economic Regulation originally, most economic regulation in the U.S. was aimed at controlling prices in industries considered to be natural monopolies. Over time, federal and state governments have also wanted to influence the characteristics of products or processes of firms in a range of industries without inherently monopolistic features. Social Regulation In contrast to Economic Regulation, which covers only particular industries, Social Regulation applies to all firms in the economy. In belief, the aim of Social Regulation is a better quality of life through improved products, a less polluted environment, and better working conditions. Since the 1970s an increasing array of government resources has been directed toward regulation product safety, advertising, and environmental effects. The essential objective of Social Regulation is to protect people from useless or dishonest producers. Federal Agencies engaged in Social Regulation Food and Drug Administration (FDA) -1927, Regulates the quality and safety of foods, health and medical products, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and animal feed. To me, this regulation is keeping people safe since there is someone monitoring the quality and safety of foods that people consume on a day to day basis.
