Description of Classroom: (Pretending) - There are 18 students - Third grade classroom. Background: - This is our first day learning about friendly letters. Content Objective(s): - SWBAT create a rough draft of a friendly letter using key information from a story. Language Objective(s): - SWBAT identify the five parts of a friendly letter through movements. Nevada Standards: - 6.3.7 Write friendly letters following an established format. - 8.3.2 Use precise language to describe feelings, experiences, observations, and ideas. Key Vocabulary: Heading, greeting, body, closing, signature

Warm Up Activity: - Teacher will begin by advising we will be writing letters today. - Ask questions about when and who we write letters to. - The activity will consist of writing a letter to an imaginary friend on the other side of the world about our experiencing in Chewandswallow. Lesson Sequence: 1. Read the story to the children. (Just a portion, we will finish the rest later) 2. Introduce key concepts of a friend letter (heading, greeting, body, closing signature) 3. Model each by writing a letter on the board (LEA) 4. Ask for volunteers to help write the letter. As the students say it aloud, you write it on the board (mistakes and all). 5. Then label each one (heading, greeting, body, conclusion, signature) 6. Do the movement s and show students (little riddle). 7. Go over any mistakes on the board. 8. Have them review the movements.

9. Each student will write a letter. (Rough draft) 10. Once completed, they will do a partner check. (Theyll read to each other) Accommodations: If they need help, the example will remain on the board and important sections will be underlined so they can copy those sections. For example. Dear____ & Sincerely Supplementary Materials: - Book - Paper - Markers, - Etc. Review/Assessment: - We will end by doing the movements as a class (see if they remember) - Then I will grade what they turn in. Note: it will be a rough draft so we are only grading on the proper sections. Reflection:
