What is metallurgy?

Metallurgy is the process of extracting metals from

their ores and modifying them for use.
Metals are commercially extracted from minerals at
low cost and minimum effort. These minerals are
called ores
It is concerned with the physical, chemical and atomic
properties of metals.
How is it done?

The process :
The primary process involved in the metallurgy of metals is
pulverization, which involves the crushing of ores into fine powder in a
crusher.
The ores extracted from the earth's crust contains a large number of
unwanted impurities called gangue mixed with them, such as quartz,
sand, etc.
The removal of these unwanted impurities from the ore is called
dressing.
The last step of Metallurgy is purification of the metal obtained.

History of
metallurgy

The present day process of metallurgyis the

result of a long path of development from
6,500 years ago.
Metallurgy has had a great impact on humanity
since the Bronze age and increasingly through
Iron and Steel ages, where a vast range of
products and structures contain metal.
