DESCRIPTION OF THE SYSTEM The transponder electronic immobiliser is an anti theft system which prevents starting the vehicle if an electronic code is not supplied to the immobiliser unit This electronic code is given by a transponder located in the body of the ignition key and does not require any specific operation by the user. The system consists of: - a transponder ~ an antenna - an immobiliser unit ~ a CDI ignition unit -a LED: - for deterrent function (except SV100) - for diagnosis OPERATING PRINCIPLE The immobiliser unit generates an electromagnetic field transmitted to the transponder via an antenna located around the ignition key. It receives the transponder code from the key and after recognising this code authorises starting of the engine through the intermediary of the CDI ignition unit. When the system is on stand by (ignition off) a flashing warning light (LED) on the instrument panel serves a deterrent function. However, to minimise battery discharging, this warning light goes out after 48 hours whilst the electronic immobiliser system remains active. PROGRAMMING THE SYSTEM The three ignition keys delivered with vehicles equipped with a transponder are programmed at the factory (one red key called the master key which is used for programming and two black keys). PROCEDURE FOR MEMORISING THE KEYS The procedure for memorising the keys enables the immobiliser unit to learn and to memorise the transponder code of the different keys. The maximum number of keys which can be memorised is eight, red key (master key included) and the minimum number is two (including the red key) The master key (red key) is the first key used in the memorisation procedure. It becomes a specific key for two reasons: ~ itis the key which enables the different memorised keys to be programmed or erased, not including itself - itis the source of the electronic code of the immobiliser unit and the ignition unit After memorisation and for safety reasons, the master key must be kept by the owner ina safe place and must not remain on the vehicle. MEMORISING THE KEYS 1. Using the red key (master key), put the ignition to ON for 1 to 3 seconds, then turn the ignition off. The immobiliser unit records the transponder in the red key as the master key. 2. Within a maximum of a 15 second time period following turning off the ignition with the red key, carry out the operation again using a black key (ignition on during 1 to 3 seconds, then ignition off). Repeat the operation as many times as there are black keys to be memorised (7 maximum) within a time period not greater than 15 seconds between each key. 3. Still within a maximum time limit of 15 seconds, after turning off the ignition with the last black key to be memorised, use the red key (master key), turn the ignition on during 1 to 3 seconds, then turn it off. This operation completes the procedure for memorising the keys. This last process authenticates the validation of the keys and if it is not done in a time of 15 seconds the process is stopped and ti is necessary to begin again CHECKING MEMORISATION Wait for at least 5 seconds after having turned off the ignition with the master key. Using the master key, switch the ignition on, the LED on the instrument panel comes on for half a second followed by a certain number of flashes. The number of flashes indicates the number of keys memorised including the master key (red key) (3 flashes = 3 keys memorised). ERASING THE KEYS FROM THE MEMORY If one or several black keys have been lost, it is possible to erase the authorised keys from the memory (except the red or master key). In this case, renewing the memorisation procedure using the master key for those black keys remaining will have the effect of erasing the last key from the memory. A new memorisation procedure is only possible with the red key and one black key at the least. SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS 1. LOSS OR DESTRUCTION TO THE MASTER KEY (RED KEY) Loss or destruction of the master key makes memorisation or erasing black keys from the memory impossible. The immobiliser unit will enable the vehicle to be started using the black keys memorised but with the risk of the vehicle being stolen using the master key in the event of it being lost. In order to make the vehicle safe again, it is compulsory to replace the ignition switch, the immobiliser unit and the CDI ignition unit. 2. LOSS OR DESTRUCTION OF A BLACK KEY Carry out a new memorisation procedure of the system using the master key and the black keys remaining and if so desired, memorise the replacement key having reproduced the shape of the key on a specific blank available from spare parts under the reference 753067. This new memorisation procedure will rule out the possibility of the vehicle being started using the lost key. 3. LOSS OF ALL BLACK KEYS A new memorisation procedure is not possible with the master key only. In this case it is essential to order a blank of the key reference 753067 to reproduce the mechanical part of the key using the master key and to carry out a new memorisation procedure. 4. REPLACING THE KEY CONTACT SWITCH Replace the key contact switch. Remove the transponder delivered with the new master key (red key) and replace it with the transponder fitted in the previous Carry out the memorisation procedure for the keys so that the immobiliser unit can memorise the two new black keys. 5. REPLACING THE IMMOBILISER UNIT If the immobiliser unit is defective it is possible to replace it with a new and blank unit (not coded). It is not possible to use a unit from another vehicle for testing (unit coded). Programme the new unit by carrying out a memorisation procedure for the keys (see checking of immobiliser unit). 6. REPLACING THE CDI IGNITION UNIT Ii the CDI ignition unit is defective, it is possible to replace it with a new and blank unit (not coded). It is not possible to use a unit from another vehicle for testing (unit coded). Programme the new unit by carrying out a memorisation procedure for the keys (see checking of the CDI unit) PRECAUTIONS FOR USE The existence of an interference suppresser (5kQ resistance) is compulsory in order for the system to function. The battery must always be well charged. If the tension of the battery is under 8 volts, the system does not run. FAULT FIINDING ON THE IGNITION SYSTEM USING THE TRANSPONDER PRINCIPLE OF FAULT FINDING The principle is identical to fault finding on a conventional ignition with in addition, diagnostic possibilities given by the lighting up of a LED on the instrument panel WHAT TO DO IN THE EVENT OF A FAULT ON THE IGNITION SYSTEM |. CHECK THAT A SPARK IS PRODUCED BY THE SPARK PLUG a) Ifasparkis present —p the problem does not concern the ignition b) if there is no spark —p the problem does concern the ignition Il. CHECK THE DIAGNOSIS LED a) The Led shows diagnosis : Refer to the transponder LED diagnosis table. (page 5) b) the led does not function : Check its wiring connections on the instrument panel red wire: - supply +12Vpermanent - supply blue wire connection to the immobiliser unit terminal (3) Check the LED : connect a 12 V supply to the instrument panel in place of the red + and blue — wires c) The led does not carry out diagnosis Firstly check the standard causes of a fault on the ignition system interruption in the wiring - HT components (spark plugs, interference suppresser, coils, flywheel) - lastly check the specific transponder components refer to the table for checking the CDI unit and the Immobiliser unit (page 7) WARNING When replacing a CDI ignition unit or an immobiliser unit it is essential to check that the ignition is functioning correctly by using a black key before proceeding with the key memorisation procedure. The procedure for memorising the keys creates a definitive link between the two units and the master key which makes them impossible to use independently. DIAGNOSIS BASED ON THE TRANSPONDER LED 1. LIGHTING UP OF THE LED WITHOUT THE IGNITION KEY (except SV 100) flashes HHHHHHH- --- A succession of very quick flashes indicates that the electronic immobiliser system is active. The deterrent function is operational for 48 hours after switching off the ignition. After 48 hours, the LED goes out to avoid discharging the battery but the immobiliser system remains active 2. LIGHTING UP OF THE LED WHEN TURNING ON THE IGNITION WITH THE MASTER KEY 0.5s_ flashes H_— HHH---- Lighting up during 0.5 seconds followed by a certain number of flashes indicates the number of keys programmed (including the master key) i.e., 2 to 8 flashes. The number of flashes corresponds to the number of keys (3 in the example). Note: It is compulsory to have one master key and one black key programmed. 3. LIGHTING UP OF THE LED WHEN TURNING ON THE IGNITION WITH ONE BLACK KEY The lighting up of the led using a black key consists of three successive phases when turning on the ignition. phase 1: gives information concerning the state of the system.
