LIFE AND WORKS OF RIZAL
MIDTERM EXAMINATION

TASK 1
Contrast the views of Rizal and Morga’s about Filipinos and Philippine culture through a cross-cutting analysis.
OBJECTIVE: The goal is to analyze and contrast the opinions of Rizal and Morga on Filipinos and culture in the Philippines. Jose Rizal
lamented the fact that he grew up knowing little about our colonial past. Morga was enthralled by the indigenous social structure, noting
origins, variations, social class advantages, upward and downward mobility, and property and title inheritance.
CAUSES: Rizal and Morga have opposing viewpoints about Filipinos and Philippine culture. Rizal and Morga's perspectives on pre-
colonial Filipino culture. Christianity, according to Rizal, was employed to facilitate the indigenous' political and economic subjection.
Dr. Morga appears to be referring to the Roman Catholic religion, which he wants to keep pure in the Philippines by using fire and
sword. Similar measures, such as those used in Flanders, were successful in retaining the church's control and even holding its subjects.
RESULTS: Rizal's statements about Morga's relative obscurity also included censorship during the Spanish colonial period. In the late
1800s, the Rizal edition of Morga, along with Noli me tangere and El Filibusterismo, was illegal in the Philippines.
CONCLUSION: As a result, I think that while Rizal and Morga's opinions differ in many respects, the most important thing is the present. It
is entirely up to us to determine what we believe, who we believe, and how we live our lives right now.
IMPLICATION: Its goal is to place Rizal's Morga in the perspective of his work as well as Philippine history. Morga by Rizal may not
have been widely read, but it is noteworthy because it signals the start of Rizal's quest to write the first Philippine history from a
Filipino's perspective.
LIMITATION: Even if Rizal's footnotes were written by the national hero, few Filipinos today, even the most patriotic, would find the
time and energy to read them. Rizal's statements about Morga's relative obscurity also included censorship during the Spanish colonial
period.
TASK:2

Cite commonalities between the present Philippine situation and the context mentioned in Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo and
elucidate your thoughts about it through a freehand essay.

-Many things have changed since the Philippines gained independence from the Spaniards, however many ideas, attitudes, and beliefs
have persisted and been accepted by the Spaniard colonists. First, we accepted their faith, which is Roman Catholic, which is the most
prevalent and practiced religion in the Philippines, with 86 percent of Filipinos being Roman Catholic. At home, Filipinos create altars
in the Hispanic manner, complete with Catholic icons, flowers, and candles. Most towns organize church services and religious
processions in honor of a patron saint, as well as funfairs and concerts, and feast on a range of Filipino delicacies during fiestas. In the
Philippines, all major Christian holidays are recognized as official national holidays. Spanish culture and Christianity have affected the
Philippines' customs and traditions
