LESSON PLAN IN GENERAL MATHEMATICS

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm Grade 11 – HUMSS

2:00 pm – 3:00 pm Grade 11 – ABM

LEARNING COMPETENCY: Evaluates a function. (M11GM-Ia-2)

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of this lesson the leaners should be able to:
1.evaluate function;
2.solve problems involving function;
3.develop cooperation during discussion and group activity
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. Topic: Evaluating Functions
B. Reference: Dimasuay, Lynie. et.al (2016). General Mathematics, C &E Publishing, Inc. pages 3-7
Teacher’s Guide for Senior High School General Mathematics Core Subject, pages 3-14
C. Materials: Laptop, Chalk and Blackboard

III. TEACHING STRATEGIES

A. Daily Routine
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Checking of Assignment
5. Review

B. Motivation
“Pick a Fries”
Questions:
1.What is the relation where each element in the domain is related to only one value in the range
by some rule?
2.What is the variable that is known as the independent variable or the input value?
3.What is the variable that is known as the dependent variable or the output value?
4.What is the test used to identify if the given graph is a function?
5.What is the set of all possible values that the variable x can take?

C. 4A’s
1.Activity
“Function Machine”

Questions:
1) If 7 goes into the machine, what number comes out?
2) If 13 goes into the machine, what number comes out?
3) If -4 goes into the machine, what number comes out?
4) If x goes into the machine, what comes out?
5) If 2x goes into the machine, what comes out?
2. Analysis
Based from the activity, answer the following questions:
1. What value have you developed while doing the activity?
2. Why is cooperation important in performing an activity?
3. What have you observed from the function machine activity?
4. What are the values of x on the given?
5. How do you solve the number that came out on the function machine?

3. Abstractions
 To sum up our lesson for today, what have you learned from our discussion?
- I learned the concept of evaluating functions.
 What are your realization?
- There is a lot of application of evaluating functions in real life situation
 How can we evaluate a function given the value of x?
- By substitution.
 What values have you develop during the discussion and activity?
- The value of cooperation.

4. Application
In real-world, functions are mathematical representations of many input-output situations. Functions are
widely used in disciplines such as biology, chemistry, economics, statistics and engineering.

Problem:
Your group decided to sell snacks in the nearby school. In one day, your group spends Php. 200 for rent and
Php 25 for each snack item you prepare. Your expenses in a single day can be expressed as the function
C(x)=25x+200, where x is the number of snacks and C(x) is your daily expenses in pesos. How much is your
expenses if the group prepare 100 snacks?150 snacks?

IV. EVALUATION
Answer the following in 10 minutes.
Evaluate the given functions.
1. Let f(x)=−2x2+3x−1. Find each function value .
a. f(0)
b. f(1)
c. f(5)2.
2. Let f(x)=√x−3. Find each function value.
a. f(3)
b. f(4)
c. f(12)

V. ASSIGNMENT
Answer the given problem.
1.The math club goes to an amusement park. Student tickets cost Php10 each. Teachers go for free. The bus costs
Php28. This is expressed as f(x)=10x+28. How much is the cost of 12 students going in the amusement park?
2.Renting a canoe costs Php10 plus Php28per day, which is expressed as f(x)=28x+10. What is the total
renting cost of canoe in 3 days
