BIGA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PUPIL ATHLETES

Part I. Situation

Culture Appreciation of our national sport is best studied when you apply it
directly. The objective of the study is to contribute to the holistic development in
terms of personality, values and culture of Biga Elementary School pupil athletes in
Arnis Training. The research aims to provide not just self defense for the pupils but
also the culture appreciation of our national sport.

Part II. The Insights

Findings revealed that most of the pupil athletes per grade level has an open
mind on joining Arnis as their sport of choice. Almost half of the enrolment are not
interested in joining the sport due to absences and parental concerns.

Part III. Summary

The purpose of the study is to contribute to the holistic development in


terms of personality, values and culture of Biga Elementary School pupil
athletes.
The Biga Elementary School has been a consistent producer of pupil
Athletes in sports especially in Arnis events. The school has been a 4-time
Regional Meet participant in Region 10 that started from year 2015, 2016,
2017, and 2018. Reaching our goal in the Palarong Pambansa is now
attainable because of the pupil athlete’s involvement and contribution to Arnis.
It does not only give credit to the school but also it provides and teaches the
pupil athletes to be disciplined and have a polished personality and well-being.
Findings revealed that most of the pupil athletes per grade level has an
open mind on joining Arnis as their sport of choice. Almost half of the
enrolment are not interested in joining the sport due to absences and parental
concerns. This research will be delimited to the 245 pupils of Biga Elementary
School, Biga, Lugait, Misamis Oriental, District of Lugait.
“What can be learned in the playground cannot be learned in the
classroom”. It’s a very catchy proverb that confirms the importance of sports
like Arnis in contributing to the holistic wellbeing of a pupil athlete. Pupils
need to develop a sound body and mind as well as shaping the pupil athlete’s
personality and their love of culture.
