TITLE: ANALYSIS OF THE URBAN BIKESCAPE IN KOCHI

ABSTRACT

From health benefits to sustainability and traffic reduction, cycling can contribute to a lot of

benefits. Stimulation of cycling is often achieved by promoting its benefits, improving the

infrastructure, and reducing the use of cars. Adaptations are largely functional rather than

stimulating riding experiences. Using serial vision as a tool, this study analyzes how physical

environmental aspects influence the cycling experience. Using urban design and phenomenology

strategies, the parameters of the physical environment and their impact on users were analyzed.

Theoretical approaches of 3 environmental aesthetics theories were considered for interpretation

of information. Planning and designing cities using the knowledge about the experiences of

cyclists is an essential element of gaining a better understanding of a city from a different point

of view than that of walking, driving, or viewing a map.
