According to a statistic published by National Geographic Learning, more than

half the world’s population now live in cities. This and that number is expected
to grow because of the variety of advantages , which big cities provides, such as
for example, the comprehensive transportation system, vast entertainment
options, or and medical service possibilities.

It means that inhabitants can easily find places or facilities to fill not only their
everyday basic needs, but also their entertainment demands in the urban life,
which may unknowingly leads to isolation. In other words, the individual
lifestyle is valued and supported rather than the sense of community because
people seem to need less help from their friends or neighbours. They can do
almost everything by themselvesf or simply pay for things or services that they
need.

In addition, economic opportunity is also a main reason for relocating to cities.

People look for better job opportunities and they seem to work harder to earn
more money. They leave their house early in the morning and come back home
late in the evening, then dive in filling their individual entertainment needs, such
as watching TV, films or listening to music. They do not know and do not need
to know who is their neighbors are and what is happening with people around
them.

Although social possibilities such asy, namely networking is are also considered
as an advantage of urban life, it is quite difficult now to make establisha deep
relationships with people living around. Therefore, it is said that in our modern
urban lifestyles, we have lost our sense of community.

However, sense of community depends not only on the urban lifestyle, but also
on the preference and appreciation of individual. It is really possible to return to
a simpler, more communal way of life. From now on, urban inhabitants can try
to get to know their neighbors, talk to them or maybe help each other out, then
see the benefits it this brings together and how much happier they are.
