HALLOWEEN

TRADITIONS.
Halloween is religious holiday celebrated by American on October 31st.
However. Others countries all over the world celebrate Halloween or a form of
it. The celebration is marked by dressing un in costumes and trick-or-treating
and carnival style events characterized by elements such as ghosts or witches.

The origins of Halloween is believed to be a pagan tradition. The Celtic festival,

which marks the end of summer, influences this festivity.
There are bonfires where people gather to burn crops and also animals are
sacrificed to the Celtic gods. Children use to go house to house asking for food
or money, (trick or treat tradition) Celts believe that on this day, the door of
the underworld was opened letting in spiritis. They also believe that on that
night, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became
blurred , so dead relatives would visit home. People drees in costumes in order
to confuse these spirits. There are several legends associated with Samhain
(the name of the ancient Celtic festival) Children often dress as a witch or a
ghost, or they dress as a fictional or real figure they admire, for example, they
choose to emulate figures like BATMAN, or SUPERAN. People decorate houses
with candles and pumpkins.
