The Committee on Population and Family Relations of the House of Representatives had
approved a measure proposing the legalization of divorce in the Philippines, the Philippine
government stated on August 17, 2021. The declaration claims that the Vatican and the Philippines
are currently the only two independent nations in the world that still forbid divorce.

My vote is divorce should be legalized here in the Philippines. Marriage is rarely as happy as
people imagine. Divorce is not as bad as people think. People can start again after a divorce and
have better lives. A life without hope is one spent in a marriage when love, respect, friendship, and
compatibility are nonexistent. You are under no obligation to think about filing for divorce if you
two decide against it. Legalizing divorce won't disrupt happy households. When a marriage is
joyful and content, people won't suddenly rush to get one just because it's available.

The clearest argument for why divorce should be permitted is that it can serve as a safeguard
against domestic abuse. Once divorce became a viable option, researchers in other nations
observed a dramatic decline in spousal conflict and extreme partner violence.
