“We boil at different degrees” by Ralph Waldo Emerson serves as a common

reminder that everyone handles their emotions differently. What may be an ideal

condition for one person might be too much for another individual. An example of

this can be compared to completing assignments. There are students who are

proactive when it comes to being on top of their assignments and cannot handle the

stress of leaving the work incomplete up until the night before, whereas someone

who procrastinates and leaves things until the last minute do not stress out with the

deadline so soon. This is a valid assumption because people function in different

ways due to their nature and past experiences. They know their comfort zones;

however, if changes are drastic, they might reach their “boiling” point and break

down because they cannot handle this new pressure they have reached. Some may

feel burned out, others can experience emotional exhaustion because of the

overexertion. Just as everyone experiences differently, they recover differently to

help cope with their emotional state. I understand my capabilities as well as my

boiling point. I am someone who procrastinates and leaves assignments to the last

moment because it gives me a sense of priority and importance rather than stressing

me out. It is important to be mindful of emotions since everyone is carrying some

burden on their shoulders, the level we express it at is where we differ.
