2. Liturgy and Devotional Music -music that used in religious rites.


Example:
Pasyon – is a Philippine narrative of the passion, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ in a form of a song
with a dramatic theme.
Salubong – is a religious ritual that re-enacts the meeting of the Risen Christ with his mother on the dawn
of easter Sunday.
Flores De Mayo- meaning Flowers of May. A Catholic festival held on the month of May.
Santa Cruzan – is a religious historical event that dramatizes the finding of the Holy Cross by the Queen
Helena and her son, Constantine the Great.
3. Secular Music – refers to any music that is not religious in nature.
Example:
Harana – is a serenade traditionally sung by a man to express his love to a lady. It is sung with emotion and
usually accompanied by a guitar.
Kumintang – originated from balayan, Batangas. With themes of love and courtship.
Pandanggo – is a dance form that can be found in the different islands of Luzon such as Batanes , Ilocos,
Tarlac, and parts of Visayas.
Polka- originated from a Bohemian dance that become popular in Europe and Amerika in early 19th century.
Balitaw – is a dialogue or courtship song in triple meter.
Kundiman – came from the words “kung hindi man”. It conveys as selfless and spiritual attitude, intensive
love, longing, caring, devotion and oneness not only with a romantic partner but also for family.
4. Instrumental Music – a sound the produced by different kinds of instruments.
Brass band – is an ensemble of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments.
Example of instrument used by the brass band.
1. Piccolo
- Shorter than the flute
- The sound it produces is thinner than the flute
2. Clarinet
- has a single-reed mouthpiece
- a straight cylindrical tube with cylindrical bore, and a flared bell
3. Alto Saxophone
- Commonly used in classical music concert bands
4. Tenor Saxophone
- A medium-sized member of the saxophone family.
5. Flute – an aerophone that produces of sound in the flow of air across an opening.
6. Trombone – means a large trumpet
7. Trumpet – has the highest register in the brass family
8. Euphonium – a valve instrument.
9. Sousaphone – known as the bass, is a type of tuba designed to be easier than the concert tuba to play
while standing.
10. French Horn – commonly known as a horn.
11. Cymbals – consist of thin normally round plates of various alloys.
12. Snare Drum – known as side drum is ever- present percussion
13. Bass Drum – produces a note of low definite and indefinite pitch.
