By: Dave & Tricia

What is a
Mitochondria?
Generated energy from food
Powerhouse of the cell

01
Respiration

02
Other Functions
Cellular metabolism
The citric acid cycle
Producing heat
Controlling calcium
Producing steroids using steroid synthesis
Calcium signalling
Immune signalling

03
Parts
Cristae
It is on this surface that ATP is
produced.
Matrix
The space enclosed by the inner
membrane. Contains a lot of
enzymes.
Outer Membrane
Encloses the entire organelle.
Inner Membrane
Wrinkled and helps make energy.
04
Facts:
They can quickly change shape and
move around the cell when needed.
When the cell needs more energy,
the mitochondria can reproduce.
Very similar to some bacteria.
Different mitochondria; diferent
proteins.
Produces small amounts of carbon
dioxide.
