INDISCRIMINATE STONE QUARRYING ACTIVITIES AT MOWIRE TOWNSHIP

DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM

Stone crushing industry is an important industrial sector in the country, engaged in producing
crushed stone, used as raw material for various construction activities. It is well known fact that
most of the workers engaged in stone mining, crushing etc., suffer from several occupational
hazards. Dust emissions has visible adverse impact on the environment. Agricultural land and
forested area are also affected due to emissions.

CAUSES OF PROBLEMS

The emission of dust from quarry site as a result of stone crushing. Dust is generated at all stages
of the productions process and the smallest, indeed invisible particles are the most hazardous due
to their ability to reach to the lower part the lung. Dust can also be emitted when explosives are
used during the stone quarrying process.

EFFECTS OF THE PROBLEM

The impact of quarrying on workers and community health is unending. Dust is a major hazard
to the human respiratory health and the most widely recognized hazardous component is the
crystalline silica which due to excessive exposure can cause severe respiratory problems.
Excessive emission of dust can lead to blurry visions causes major accidents on our roads.

PROPOSED SOLUTION

Control systems are used to reduce dust emissions. Although installing a dust control system
does not assure a total prevention of dust emissions, a well-designed dust control system can
protect workers and community health. In order to control dust, the WLP’s dust and odour
control system reduce the problems of dust in all site( inside and outside). Each WLP system
tries to reproduce a natural phenomenon artificially.

DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF PROPOSED SOLUTION

The WLP’s system tries to reproduce and optimize the natural phenomenon of how rain water
suppresses airborne dust particles. The idea of ejecting water into the atmosphere in the form of
small drops could be an ideal solution to eliminate particulate matter. The low-energy dust
suppression gun helps to improve ambient air quality and also use less water than traditional
water sprinklers. Besides the spray gun, a complete system controls dust autonomously.
