Problem 1 Residential User Electric energy consumption of a House located in

Monterrey in 2017, with bimonthly billing, is shown in table below.

a) Estimate the annual amount to be paid in 2018, assuming that due to the
installation of additional A/C units, energy consumption will be increased by
25%. Amount to be paid in 2018 = $_______________

b) Calculate the capacity of a photovoltaic solar system (kW) that must be

installed in March 2018, in order to be reclassified to tariff 1C starting March,
2019. Assume solar system capacity factor is 0.20. Calculate the total
amount paid by this residential user in 2019 assuming calculated panel is
installed

kWp= ______________ Amount to be paid in 2019 = $ ________________

c) Calculate the capacity of a photovoltaic solar system (kW) that must be

installed, in order to be reclassified to tariff 1C starting November, 2018.
Assume solar system capacity factor is 0.20. Calculate the total amount paid
by this residential user in 2019 assuming calculated panel is installed

d) kWp= ______________ Amount to be paid in 2019 = $ ________________

Assumptions: Assume Fixed unit energy cost and constant fixed

charges in 2018 and 2019 for your analysis (Use information from
January,2018).

Use a “safety margin” when sizing solar panel. Size the system based on
an energy production equal to the minimum required value + 15%.

Assume capacity factor for all months equal to annual capacity factor (0.2).
To calculate solar system energy production, consider average number of
hours per month (730)

Assume that consumption in all months of 2018 and 2019 is 25% higher
than corresponding months in 2017
