CAPE Biology Planning and Designing Lab Outline

Date:

Title: Planning and designing

Question: Plan and design an experiment to compare the effectiveness of different enzymatic
and non-enzymatic washing powders on removal of different types of stains

Hypothesis: Here you would write what you think the results will be.

Aim: What you hope to determine from your investigation

Apparatus/Material: The materials you used in your investigation.

Method: the method you will uses to investigate your hypothesis

Variables:
Control variable: A variable is any factor or condition that can exist in differing
amounts or types. Controlled variables are factors that a scientist wants to remain constant/
unchanged. What you keep the same for comparison.

Dependent/ Responding variable is what will be measured; it's what the investigator
thinks will be affected during the experiment

Independent/Manipulated variable is the factor that is changed by the scientist. What

is varied during the experiment; it is what the investigator thinks will affect the dependent
variable. As the scientist changes the independent variable, he or she observes what happens.

Expected results: What you expect the results will be for the experiment.

Treatment of Results: Appropriate tables. Note, tables should be neatly drawn. The title of
the table should be underlined and written in capital letters above each table. There should be
no result in the table, you should create table indicated how you would record your data if
you had done the experiment. The title of both tables and graphs should be informative.

Limitation and Assumptions: The possible short come or weakness of the design of the
experiment.
