Disease and Nakatras

Sri Ka was teaching Yudhihira and narrated the discussion between Agnihotra Kauika Muni and Mahari Garga (Bhaviya Pra). Mahari Garga inquired Brahma! How can any person be realized from such suffering like bondage, imprisonment, being tied down under adverse conditions, slavery or under attack/siege from enemies or wild animals and diseases. Unless the suffering person is relieved from these adverse circumstances or conditions how can he hope for emancipation from rebirth. Pray tell me the path to freedom. Kauika Muni replied, Knowledge of death, disease and illness is known from the conception time, birth and janma nakatra. If the disease starts from these nakatra (i.e. Conception or natal moon star) then the danger of death should not be ruled out. Based on the Moon at the moment of start of a disease, the period of suffering can be ordained. Kauika Muni continued that there are certain stars, which are violent and can indicate death. [Jyotinirbanda indicates that nakatras 6, 9, 11, 15, 18, 20, 25 show premature death or long term effect/suffering due to disease.]. He suggested the worship of the nakatra devat as the remedy for cure. If the exact date/time of the star can be ascertained then the diety of the nakatra should be propitiated. This is the best solution. If propitiated and satisfied, then the graha (vimotari) ruling the star shall indicate the exact period of cure. For example, worship Awin Kumar if the disease started in Awin, or Yama if the disease started in Bhara. The mantra can be simple like yamadaivata yamya svh or other mantras learnt from authoritative sources can be used[1]. If the nakatra for start of the disease cannot be ascertained, then the deity of the janma nakatra should be propitiated at all times. Remember that devas should be worshipped with svh and pits with svadh. Kauika continued, Muni! Lord Brahma has taught that if the sampua is given with the Gayatri mantra 1000 times, then all diseases will be cured.
