INTRODUCTION

Patient care study is an academic exercise carried out by final year student nurse. The care study uses the

nursing process which is a deliberate activity whereby the practice of nursing is performed in a systematic

manner. The nursing process has five components: These are assessment, analysis, planning,

implementation and evaluation. Using the nursing process, emphasis is placed on health promotion,

maintenance and restoration or enhancing a peaceful death depending on the client’s condition. The study

was carried out on Miss Fati Awudu, a 1 year 4 month old girl admitted to the ward C5 of Komfo Anokye

Teaching Hospital on 12th January, 2010. She was diagnosed of bronchopneumonia.

The study is in five chapters.

Chapter one gives information on the assessment made on client and the family. This involves client’s

particulars, developmental history, past and presents medical history, hobbies, family medical and socio-

economic history and client’s lifestyle.

Chapter two identifies and solves client and family problems and strengths and also analysis of data

collected by comparing them with that of literature review.

Chapter three involves the nursing care plan carried out for the patient.

Chapter four gives summary of the detailed of the care given. It interpretates the illustrations in chapter

three. It also states how client and family were prepared for discharge and how the continuity of care was

carried out.

Chapter five evaluates the entire care given and also gives a summary and conclusion on the whole

nursing care rendered.
