Activity 4

The illustration here shows a typical human settlement at the foot of a mountain where you can also see
a river flowing from the mountain towards the community of people. The river is the source of fin fish
and shell fishes like crabs and shrimps.

1. Identify and enumerate the good or the “environment- friendly” practice/s in the community.
 Conserve water- the less water you use, the less runoff and wastewater that eventually end
up in the ocean.
 Volunteer- for cleanups in your community. You can get involved in protecting watershed
too
 Plant a tree – provide food and oxygen. They help save energy, clean the air and help
combat climate change.
 Reduce Reuse Recycle- cut down on what you throw away. Follow the three “R’s” to
conserve natural resources and landfill space.
 Educate- when you further your own education, you can help others understand the
importance and value of our natural resources.

2. Identify and enumerate the bad or “non-environment friendly practice/s in the community.
 Using Plastic bag- is made of non-renewable material and causes a lot of waste to the sea
 Leaving Appliances Plugged In- can cause all sorts of hazards and increased fire risks
 Plastic Bottles- Many animals eat plastic materials and die
 dumping garbage everywhere- can cause bad effect on our health.
 Cutting down trees- can cause global warming and floods.

3. If you will plant a lot of trees at the side or edge (sa DAPLIN) of the river, what do you think will
happen to the water in the river? And what do you think will happen to the people in the
community during heavy rain?
Answer
It helps slow down the flow of rainwater reducing flooding, erosion, and it also helps with global
warming and many more benefits we can get from planting trees.
