Peak Voltage Dip Displays the calculated peak voltage dip. This dip must be less than or equal to the peak voltage dip limit for that step forthe generator tobe recommended. In determining the peak voltage dip, GenSize looks atthe smallest voltage dp limit in all steps inthe project and 10% peak voltage dip requirement ifa ‘medical load is added to any ofthe steps. It then takes the smaller value ofthe two as the peak voltage dip limit. hitpstipowersuite.cummins.comsitesidefaulfiles/HTMLiFraley/en/GenselRecommendations Help. en2 121252018 Power Suite 5.0 ‘This limit is imposed when there ae cylic loads in te project so thatthe peak voltage dip calculated doesr't exceed the voltage ip limit of any of the loads connected tothe generator. Note that in some cases it may be acceptable to allow the UPS t allow to revert to the battery during transients that may occur when lage eyle ait concitioning or motor loads cycle on and of This can help getting a smaller sized generator set In some cases, GenSize may recommend a generator f che peak voltage dip and/or the peak frequency dip have exceeded the transient frequency dip limit of one or mote ofthe UPS loads connected to the generator st. This might cause the UPS to momentarily revert tothe battery In tis case the peak voltage dip and/or the peak frequency dp csplayed in the recommendation grid fora given generator set will be lsplayed as yellow. In this cae, the peak voltage dip and/or the peak frequency dip esplayed in the recommendation grid fora given generator set wil be displayed as yellow. Site Rated Standby/Prime/Continuous KW Displays the site rated standby or prime kW (prime power duty i already derated 10 percent) the cispay i red, the site rated kW is less than the load running KW, the eunning load kW is less than minimum rated load value or maximum rated load value inthe project parameters, If the display i yellow, the load running kW isless than 30 percent of the site rated set «W. Running generator sets at les than 20 percent of rated load «can be accomplished by lowering the minimum percent rated load value in the New Project Parameters, The display may also be yellow ithe load running EW is greater than 90% ofthe site rated set KW. Site Rated Alternator Max kW (Temperature Rise) Displays the site-rated alternator kW forthe temperature rise selected inthe current project parameters. If the display/column is red, the alternator cannot ‘maintain your temperature rise forthe load running kVA requirement. The masimum alternator rated KVA capacity is shown in the grid The Alternator Max KW may be derated depending onsite altitude and ambient temperature. For example, fr low voltage alternators, the altitude knee is 1000 (3280 ft) andthe temperature knee i 40°C (104"F), Alternator Max kW will be derated 3% per SOOm (1640 ft) of attude above the knee and 3% per 5°C (3) of ambient temperature over the knes. hitpstipowersuite.cummins.comsitesidefaulfiles/HTMLiFraley/en/GenselRecommendations Help. ena 120252018 Power Suite 5.0 > Ges» Geni El Pd Gee Reminds a GenSet Recommendations :: conse winrtes srarorm vgn optone———Rearmanaon ‘Repent enc opens LT mone €2URZ|o Baa eg aleOrO| foo ‘ot Porformanco Load Requiramonts ax. ep Voge 9,5 Ma. lowed Sep Votage Do, nso ax sep Frequency Di, a. owe ep Freauensy Bp, % ‘ons Peak reavene tox. owed Peak requeney De 0 Se te Sony KV fanning KH mas Se atta, EES cree ese er tens beatin shu PersentHon-Linear Lond 220%: Votiage Distortion 28 Voltage Dstoton Limit, 10) “lA goer et pone cu band now pn et Standard Factory Enclosures (Sound stented ana weamer-protctve) a Figure 1: Recommended Generator Set Window hitpstipowersuite.cummins.comsitesidefaulfiles/HTMLiFraley/en/GenselRecommendations Help. m2 1202512018 Power Suite 5.0 GenSet Recommendations : censae estes) ra Form wovetoncyems —__seoemmntstce spor pone ‘ence optene eas € UNE | LOMO | {Giclees i alr endomre OMY of ° ° ° e@ ou e ° wlan |@ a wlan |, reject Requromects, SERRE RONEN Scnorstr setcomauraven | ransienteormance Detalz. | Comment Frequency He 0 He ste Alia, 594150) doy Stadey_ Ste Temperature, CtF 271680, Sans yy Mex A Temp Rise “C 4 Project Vousg® Distortion Lm. w Figure 2: All Generator Set Window Site Rated Max SkW and Max SKVA Displays the site-rated (derated when necessary fr altitude and ambient temperature] maximum SKW and SKVA the generator set configuration can accommodate. One of the Sizing philosophies for surge loading i, withthe surge load applied, the generator set must be able to recover to 90% of rated volage so that mators can develop adequate acelerating torque. I the generator set recovers to 90% of rated voltage, a motor wl develop 81% of rated torque, which has been shown by experience to provide acceptable motor starting performance. Ifthe display is yellow, the generator st can recover to a minimum of 90% of rated voltage wth required surge load, but only because the suree requirement has been reduced. GenSize will reduce the surge requirement in ecognition ofthe fact thatthe generator set output voltage is reduced while loads having starting power requirements approaching the maximum generator set capacty are staring, Temperature Rise at Full Load Displays the temperature rise the alternator wil not exceed while supplying load up to and including the generator set fll-oad rating. Each individual ienerator set model will have one or more ofthe following temperature rise alternators available which may be specited in the current project parameters 80° 108°C, 125% and 150°C. Of course, the actual temperature rise ofan alternator Is a function of actual connected load. Therefore, GenSize may recommend a generator set with 2 lower or higher temperature rise option than specified inthe New Projact Parameters since the set recommendation is based on connected load which may be less than the fll generator set capacity. In any cas, the set recommendation wil imi the alternator temperature rise to that specified in the New Project Parameters. The PMG excitation system is recommended fr applications that have high-linear load content. Unless the PMG option is unavalabe, Curnmins Power Generation does not recommend using shunt excited generator set ifthe non-linear load requirement is more than 25% of the total load requirement, The non-linear load requirement is calculated by adding the Running KW from all ofthe loads where Alternator KW exceeds Running KW. This wll be the case for UPS loads, variable frequency motors, and solid state motor starters which are not equipped with an automatic bypass. This Alternator kW sum is then aivded by the sum ofthe Running kW from all ofthe loads, THDV% Limit Displays whether the estimated percent value of voltage total harmonic distortion (THOV%) atthe alternator terminals exceeds the THOV% limit defined for the project or not. the estimated value is within the projec limits, a green check mark symbol wil be shown, Otherwise, 2 ed exclamation mark symbol wil be shown, Why a generator set may not be recommended Several factors can cause a generator set to not be recommended. Running kW requirement may exceed the rating ofthe generator set. Project parameters such as altitude, ambient temperature and prime power duty ‘may cause the generator set ta be derated and fal below project requirements ‘+The Running kW may be below the minimum of 10 to 30% of rated generator set capacity, as specified in the current project parameters (30% default, as recommended by Cummins Power Generation The surge KW requirement may exceed generator capacity, which may have fallen below project requirements because of erating fr alt ambient temperature. GenSize uss the greater Cumulative kW and Peak kW to determine the load surge kW. ‘+The surge HVA exceeds generator set capacity. The surge KVA requirement is similar tothe surge KW requirement except that there is no derating for altitude or ambient temperature. GenSize uses the greater of cumulative KVA and Peak kVA (if any) to determine the load surge KVA requirement. ‘+ The alternator KW requires exceeds te alternator capacity, which maybe derated for altitude and ambient temperature by the project parameters. ‘The Aiternator Max kW may be derated depending onsite akitude and ambient temperature, For example, for low voltage alternators, the atude knee is 1000m (3280 ft) and the temperature knee 40°C (108"F). Alternator Max KW will be derated 3% per 500m (1640 ft) of aitude above the knee and 3% pr 5* (5 F of ambient temperature over the knee ‘+The alternator KVA required exceeds alternator capacity, which can be derated by altitude and temperature in the same way as the alternator KW. ‘The total non-tnear load requirement exceeds 25% of the total load requirement. Ths will exclude shunt-excited generators where PMG excitation Isnot available. The total noninear load requirement is the sum ofthe RRW values ofa ofthe nonlinear loads. +The calculated voltage and frequency dips exceed the mits forthe project. +The calculated peak voltage and peak frequency dips exceed the limits forthe project. Peak voltage dip is caleuated only if loads inthe project exhibit a running surge (cylicloads or loads lke medical imaging that have a high peak power requirement when they are operated) ‘+The estimated percent value of voltage total harmonie distortion (THOVY) at the alternator terminals has exceeded the THOV% limit defined forthe project. ‘+The message, "No generator set i avalable that meets your running load requirements” usually means that something inthe New Project Parameters has been changed after having specified the running load. For instance, you wil see this message if you change from diese! to natural 35 fuel and the running load you had specified exceeds the capacity ofthe largest natural gs. It may also mean that your projctfllsinco 2 "gap" in the Cummins Power Generation product line. At this point, lowering the minimum percent rated lot inthe project parameters coulé allow 2 recommended set. If this is the case, contact your local Cummins Power Generation distributor for help. ‘+The message, "No generator set i available which meets your frequency or voltage cip requirements” general means thatthe surge requirement ofa load step is forcing selection of such a large generator set that the steady state running load falls below 30% of the generator set capacity, tude and Since Cummins Power Generation does not recommend running at less than 30% of rated capacity for diesel generator sets, no set can be recommended. [As this point, you may have several chotces Increase the allowable votage or frequency dip. Reduce the minimum percent rated load to less than 30 percent. ‘Apply loads in more steps to lower the individual step surge load Provide reduced voltage motor stating Parallel generator sets ‘Add loads that do not havea high starting surge lights, esistive loads, ete) 4.
