As I finished watching this documentary, I found myself easily sympathizing with the

family's situation. I recall a time in my childhood when we were still trying to make a
living, but not as hard and tough as the family depicted in this documentary. My parents
were not beside us also they just looking for money to provide for our basic needs. I am
so grateful that I did not have to go through these trials. I have a lot of respect for
mother Vina because even though life is too tough and hard, she still tries to feed them.

The Navarro family's daily life is the focus of the documentary. The Navarro family
usually started their day by eating breakfast such lugaw, sopas, noodles, rice, and so
on, as their budget options are limited. In the documentary some neighbours will
sometimes share their resources; for example, basic items such as soap for bathing are
not usually available from one household and must be obtained from a neighbour. The
place they live in is an area unsuitable for raising physically, mentally, and morally
healthy children. According to the GMA documentary that hundreds of reports of
violence and illegal activity, including a shootout. Their community where law
enforcement would not bother enforcing the law. Illness and death are frequently
witnessed by the entire Navarro family and are primarily caused by a lack of nutrition
needs such as food, clothing, and a positive environment. After the husband's death,
which was "caused by a gunshot," admittedly, the mother is the one who provides
everything for this family; she even risked being labelled an irresponsible mother for
leaving her children alone at their home while looking for food. Her main source of
income is their old house, which is now rented out for 700 pesos per month, and she
also peels garlic for extra money. In terms of education responsibility, the mother gives
a 20-peso allowance for transportation and to buy some snacks during recess or break
time; it is estimated that Mary Rose spends 10 pesos on back-and-forth transportation
and the remainder on snacks such as bread and juice. Poverty is the main reason why
people in this area are lack education and are often hungry resulting to physical
deficiency. Because books are not readily available or offered to the students, they must
replicate the majority of the reading materials and activities in order to complete their
homework. Their homework is completed in the afternoon because there is no available
illumination in the evening. The school has a program which is the "Hot-snacks Feeding
Program" that feeds malnourished children. The school clinic performs a regular check-
up on the pupils, which begins with the students being weighed to determine their body
mass, following which they are divided into three categories: extremely malnourished,
severe, and normal. They provide vitamins for the students but it is depending on the
year's budget, the school may be able to supply vitamins for their students' health
nourishment. But for me, feeding programs are believed to be a bridge to connect with
parents in order for them to learn how to properly nourish their children in the event that
- in the worst-case situation - the programs are no longer available for services. I
believe that these programs will assist and educate parents in gaining information in
caring for their children, as well as requiring family effort and cooperation. In a family,
the attitudes of the parents are extremely significant, because young children rapidly
absorb the views of the group's prominent members. The community in which the
children reside is clearly the cause of certain children's behaviour. Mary Rose desired to
leave that environment since she had witnessed and suffered violent gun shootings,
murders, drug usage, and negative social behaviour like bullying. Because of the
country's poverty and lack of economic possibilities, many Filipinos are unable to afford
to house, putting them at risk of sleeping on the streets, and decided to stay or live in
clammy areas or squatters where all the social issues are rampant.

Poverty kills the dream of the children and I think that it should be addressed by the
government. I hope and pray that this coming election that leaders who have strong
plataforma or plan to lessen the poverty level if the country should win because poverty
is perhaps the most pressing issue in the Philippines. Poverty isn't comfortable in this
place right now. Destitution in the Philippines arose as a result of the country's rapid
population growth, which corresponded to its temperament. Poverty is a major issue in
the Philippines and is because of the past and still, corrupt politicians are one of the
primary causes of poverty in the Philippines. Powerful people are only concerned with
themselves. They abuse their power and misuse government funds for personal gain.
They make millions and billions of dollars while poor people who voted for them go
hungry. As a future social worker, I will make sure that I will use all my resources,
connection and networks to help people who are in need in any form. I will continue to
explore and widen my social and community understanding to give the best service and
intervention to all the Filipino people.

The Philippines is an overpopulated country with no family planning and no sex

education. As a result, there will be a massive population explosion. With limited
resources, any government finds it difficult to meet the needs of such a large population.

The model, theory, and function that is applicable to the story is the Problem
Solving/Helping Process. The problem-solving model was developed by Helen Harris
Perlman, a social worker and author of "Social Casework: A Problem-solving Process."
Using the problem-solving model, a social worker assists an individual in identifying a
problem, developing an action plan to solve it, and implementing the solution. The social
worker and the individual discuss the effectiveness of the problem-solving strategy and
make any necessary adjustments. It is clearly stated that Mary Rose and Mrs. Vina
need assistance both financially and medically.

This is also part of the social work field under Child welfare that refers to the services
and institutions concerned, with the physical, social, and psychological well-being of
children, particularly those suffering from the effects of poverty or who lack normal
parental care and supervision. It is a collaboration of different partners, agencies,
organizations, and sectors especially the government these include; the Department of
Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Council for the Welfare of Children
(CWC), and the Committee for the Special Protection of Children (CSPC) based at the
Department of Justice, and Barangay Community Councils. The DSWD is the primary
welfare agency of the government.

Based on the information gathered, the best intervention that can be provided for Mrs.
Vina, who is still young at the age of 40 (forty), is to enrol her in vocational skills from
partner organizations such as TESDA and DTI, where she can choose whichever skills
training she wants to engage in, such as dressmaking, food preparation,
entrepreneurship, and more. Aside from that orient Mrs. Vina to work out with the
agencies to see the welfare of her six children, children must be closely monitored in
terms of their education, economic, social, and health conditions. They should be a
recipient of the DSWD regular program which is the “Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino
Program”. 4Ps is a poverty reduction strategy that provides grants to extremely poor
households to improve their health, nutrition, and education, particularly of children
aged 0-14. Being in the agency, I will make sure that they will be benefited from this
program.
