Reality of how different genders are treated in the workplace

Setting: Office

Ideas from our meeting:

Glass ceiling on women – fields are dominated by men, women have a hard time on being promoted
among sea of men and on the other hand, men are usually easily promoted in a womanly work
environment, because their work are always seen as accomplishments.

Women are usually cancelled out during meetings – women’s opinions are usually not valued and they
are usually viewed as dramatic and nonsense.

Sexual harassment - sexually charged comments or jokes, non-sexual but inappropriate comments about
gender, asking for sex in exchange of promotion.

Gender discrimination – discrimination in women for doing so called jobs for men and commenting that
they are too weak to keep up with men or trying hard to be like men. On the other hand, men doing so
called female jobs are usually generally viewed as gay.

Power tripping – some male bosses use their power to gain reputation from women workers and tend to
disregard potential promotions for men

Heavy workload – men are usually given tougher jobs or more duties simply because they are men

Gender preference – some jobs have strict preferences with regards to gender, even if you are full of
potential, when you are gay or lesbian, you cannot be hired.

Judgements – gays and lesbians are always perceived with maliciousness, especially when they have the
authority. Issues arise when they promote someone who they may seem interested in for the eyes of
other people.

Not taken seriously – the LGBT community are usually not taken seriously when they report incidents
about harassment and they are usually victim blamed.
