Human Resources and Talent Management


Introduction to the course
This course will primarily focus on learning how human resources and talent management
can help creating successful organisations and business departments. It will equip managers
to making sure that they have the right people with the right skills in the right roles at the
right time. This course will involve use of theories and models for action, lectures and
classroom discussion, case studies, research findings, exercises, project works and
newspaper articles. This course will examine specific topics such as business issues of human
resources, employee engagement, elements of employment law, improving organisational
performance through talent planning and human capital, resourcing and talent
management, talent retention and development. By critically evaluating various topics of
the subject, learners will develop new perspectives of looking at people and teams working
in their organisation and will acquire key managerial skills to strategically manage talent in
their departments and organisation.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the sessions, delegates should be able to:
LO1Understand the key contemporary business issues and factors affecting
organisations and how Human Resource strategies and practices are shaped and
developed.
LO2Apply the concept of employee engagement to achieving business outcomes and its
importance as a key contributor to positive corporate outcomes.
LO3Manage performance and disciplinary matters lawfully ensuring staff are treated
lawfully when they are at work.
LO4 Undertake talent planning and recruitment activities and improve organisational
performance through talent management.
LO5 Evaluate the relationship between organisational performance and effective talent
management and development.

 Understanding the Business Environment, its impact on business and the Human
Resources function.
 Recognising Human Resource Strategies and Practices.
 Assessing Employee Engagement and Competitive Advantage.
 Developing high-performance Corporate Culture.
 Summarising the key elements of the Employment Law.
 Manging performance and disciplinary matters at work.
 Analysing Talent Planning, Recruitment and Selection.
 Appraising Human capital perspectives and building organisational performance and
capability.
 Evaluating Talent Management and Development.

Duration
Total hours: Total no. of study hours : 150
30 hours of scheduled learning and teaching activities, delivered
