THERMODYNAMICS II

Steam enters the high-pressure turbine of a steam powerplant which operates on the ideal reheat
rankine cycle at 6 MPaa and 500 degrees C and leaves as saturated vapor. Steam is then reheated to 400
degrees C before it expands to a pressure of 7.5 KPaa. Heat is transferred to the steam in the boiler at a
rate of 10^5 KJ/s. Steam is cooled in the condenser by the cooling water from nearby river, which enters
the condenser at 18 degrees C and leaves at 25 degrees C. Determine: a) the pressure at which
reheating takes place b) the net power output and thermal efficiency c) the mass flow at cooling water
required

Steam enters the superheaters of a boiler at a pressure of 25 bar and dryness of 0.98 and leaves at the
same pressure at a pressure at a temperature of 370 degree C. Calculate the heat energy supplied per kg
of steam supplied in the superheaters.

Steam Properties are:

At 25 bar and 370 C:

H= 3171.8KJ/kg

At 25 bar and 0.98 dryness:

Hf= 962.11 KJ/kg

Hfg=1841.0KJ/kg

Steam flows into a turbine at the rate of 10 kg/s and 10 kw of heat are lost from the turbine. Ignoring
elevation and kinetic energy effects, calculate the power output from the turbine. Given: h1=2739.0 and
h2= 2300.5 KJ/kg
