DEAD NA SI LOLO

My thoughts on the film Ded na si Lolo are a little unexpected because the title
suggests that it is a serious film, but I was mistaken. This is a Filipino Indie film with some
of the best performers in Philippine cinema; it is also a comedy. The video depicts many
Filipino traditions, customs, beliefs, and civilizations. This video is unusual in that it
depicts how the Philippines split from the rest of the globe. The tale revolves around the
death of Lolo Juanito, although numerous family issues are addressed in the later half of
the film. In the first half, when the news of Lolo Juanito's death reaches his family
members, they all faint; this moment made us chuckle because, while fainting is common
when one of the family members dies, the characters in the movie sequences illustrate
who about faints best. Also, when the coffin arrives, it appears that their entrance is pretty
little, so they have a lot of ideas before they arrive to put the casket on their second floor's
widow. This sequence also made us chuckle since the audience in the film is constantly
yelling and howling. When the casket arrived at its destination, various beliefs were
exposed, such as placing a rosary on Lolo Juanito's hand and tearing the rosary. They
added money from Lolo Juanito's hand and stated they would remove it before the burial
since it brings good luck to their family. Next, no one can wear anything red, but children
must cover themselves with a red blanket to avoid being visited by the dead. The film
depicts strong family relationships because, despite their disagreements, they all feel sad
for what they have become and would support each other no matter what. One of the
family members willingly supports the financial difficulty of Lolo Juanito's illness and
funeral, like they do in the film when they confront financial problems regarding his death.
The film also includes the notion of "lamay," which is highly distinctive in Filipino culture.
This lamay is incredibly significant to all Filipinos since it is the way we honor our loved
ones even after they have died. Also, all of the deceased's friends and relatives express
their condolences and make cash donations to assist his or her family with the burial. The
film Ded na si Lolo is really different from any other film I've seen. It talks about Filipino
culture, the close family ties, and how Filipino give importance and condole to their loved
ones.
