Sustainability is the future..

Today when we ponder upon the years passed we realise the drastic environmental
changes that have taken place and how life on mother Earth has taken a toll due to the
same.
Generation after generation we pass on our traditional values, beliefs and cultural heritage to
the next generation, but have we ever wondered about the environment we live in? Are we
heading towards a safe transition from one generation to another?
Mother nature has blessed us with a bank of resources, which we often exploit and land
ourselves and the future generation in trouble.
One very important resource - Water due to its multipurpose usage, is considered a
precious, essential and an abiotic component of the ecosystem. It is rightly said "Jal Amrit
hai"
Today we all are heading towards the water crisis and this is mainly because of the lack of
water conservation and pollution of water bodies.
We at Podar have realised that the impact that water conservation has on a sustainable
environment is undeniable and thus have made a conscious effort to make our school a
'Water Magnet' by implementing rainwater harvesting systems at the premise.
Rain water harvesting comes to the rescue during water crises and does wonders in very
easy steps. It is a simple strategy by which rainfall is gathered and stored for future usage.
The process involves collection and storage of rainwater with help of artificially designed
systems, that runs off natural or man-made catchment areas. The collected rainwater from
surfaces on which rain falls may be filtered, stored and utilized in different ways or directly
used for recharge purposes.
With depleting groundwater levels and fluctuating climate conditions, this measure can go a
long way to help mitigate the adverse effects of rising water scarcity. Reserving rainwater
can help recharge local aquifers, reduce urban flooding and most notably, ensure water
availability in water-scarce zones.
Our harvesting and collection of rainwater has become an adequate strategy that has helped
us with water scarcity and also enabled us to create awareness amongst the masses on how
to utilise the water that is being gifted by the mighty clouds. This simple water conservation
method has become an incredible solution for us and a pathway towards sustainability.
