I.

Terraforming Mars
A. Placing thin layers of silica aerogel on or above the Martian surface.
1. The insulating aerogel would warm the ground enough to melt water ice
and would also block harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation, potentially creating an
environment where plants and other photosynthetic life could flourish.

II. So, how could we jump start Mars’s magnetic field?

A. First, we would have to somehow liquefy the outer core of the planet.
1. Then the planet’s own rotation would create a dynamo and generate a
magnetic field like Earth’s. This could be done using an extremely large nuclear
bomb which would be placed near the core of the planet.
