Unit 2 – HOW DO STEREOTYPES IMPACT WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT?

1 - COVER GIRLS

1957 2009

Present the documents (doc+ type of magazine) and describe each cover (picture, cover girl,

attitude, topics).

These documents are magazine covers of “Seventeen”, a magazine for young

women/teenagers. In the first cover, I can see a girl wearing a conservative dress, being
insecure, girly, shy and innocent. On the second one, the cover girl is confident/self-
assured. She has a curvy body and she is posing with confidence. The beauty standards
changed over time.

Your turn: Do you think that the representation of women has evolved? Explain.
Use linkwords: To justify, use INDEED / FOR
To express concession, use EVEN IF / EVEN THOUGH
