The first conditional

FORM

IF + present simple FUTURE


If you drop it it will break
If you phone me i will pick you up

Or

FUTURE IF + present simple


It will break if you drop it
I will pick you up if you phone me

The first conditional refers to the future. It is used when there is a possibility that the if
event might happen
If it rains, we will go to the cinema (It might rain: it might not)
If the sun shines we will go to the beach (The sun might shine: it might not)

Going to is sometimes use in the first cinditional to describe a future plan:


If it rains, we are going to visit my mother
