Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass (excerpt from chapter 1)

1) Read the text: pick up all the information about the author.
He was an American social reformer, orator, and writer. He
spent 20 years as a slave before he escaped. He became the
leader of the abolitionist movement, dedicated to ending the
institution of slavery. In the book he describes his life as a
salve

He was born in Tuckahoe, his mother died when he was seven
and his father is probably his master
3) Pick out all the information about slavery at the time
They didn’t know their age or their birthday. He was taken
away from his mother at a young age. They were hit by their
masters
