Our favorite sports stars

A couple of friends are talking about their favorite sports stars.

 Rose: Look, George! The Olympic Games is coming soon.

 George: Right! I feel very excited about it.
 Rose: I know why.
 George: Really?
 Rose: Of course! Your favorite star is going to participate there, right?
 George: That’s true, Rose. Cristiano Ronaldo, the best soccer player.
 Rose: First, tell me a little more about him, please.
 George: Sure! What do you want to know?
 Rose: Where was he born?
 George: In Funchal, Portugal. He is 36 years old now.
 Rose: Oh! He’s very young. But why is he the best?
 George: Well, first because he holds a record for more goals than Messi during his
professional career in the European League. Can you imagine?
 Rose: That’s a lot! Tell me more.
 George: Sure! Then, he won five Ballon awards and four European Golden Shoes.
 Rose: And when did he appear in the world of soccer?
 George: He began his career playing for Sporting CP, when he was 17 and later, he
signed for Manchester United, at the age of 18 in 2003.
 Rose: Wow! He was very talented at that time. Now I understand why he is a very
successful man.
 George: Oh, yeah! He’s a phenomenon. And what about you, Rose? Who’s your
favorite sport star?
 Rose: I love Roger Federer. He’s one of the best tennis players.
 George: Yes! He is ranked number 6 in the world by the Association of Tennis
Professionals.
 Rose: Well, Rafael Nadal was one of his biggest opponents. They are very cool
tennis players! For example: Federer won his first Grand Slam single title at
Wimbledon in 2003.
 George: I heard that when he was a child, he played other sports.
 Rose: Sure! He grew up supporting FC Basel and the Swiss national football team,
badminton and basketball.
 George: He’s very talented.
 Rose: Of course, he is! Well, it was very interesting talking to you, George. I have to
go home.
 George: Yes, it was fun! Don’t worry. Take care, Rose!
