This manual provides procedures and guidelines that support the
configuration and operation of NetNumen N31 system.
Intended Audience
This manual is intended for engineers and technicians who

Starting Server
Purpose This topic describes to realize server running, server must be
started.

Purpose This topic describes to use NetNumen N31 client function

Overview
Introduction This chapter mainly describes the functions, display style and
operations of NetNumen N31 interface.

Interface Operations
Interface NetNumen N31 system Graphical User Interface is shown in
Introduction Figure 6. NetNumen N31 system interface is the main interface
of NetNumen N31. The interface is divided into eight different
parts: toolbar, menu bar, title bar, logical view area, status bar,
alarm area, message area, and physical view area.
Topological tree is shown in the logical view area while
topological view is shown in the physical view area. Prompt and
error messages are shown in the message area. The number of
all levels alarms is counted in the alarm area.
Common The common operations used in the NetNumen N31 system
Operations interface include:
Lock screen.
Close current view.
Close all views.
Log out.
Set options.
Exit NetNumen N31 system.
Locking Screen
Purpose This topic describes locking screen function. NetNumen N31
system interface has the similar windows locking screen function.
When user selects screen lock, the main view and all views are
hidden, while at the same time, login window pops up. After
filling in the right password, screen lock is unlocked, and then all
views and main interface appear.
Prerequisites To lock screen, meet the following requirements:
NetNumen N31 server is started.
NetNumen N31 client is started.
Steps To lock screen, perform the following steps.
1. Click Lock Screen in the toolbar or select System > Lock
Screen from the NetNumenN31 Unified Management
System window.
Result: The confirm dialog box appears, as shown in Figure
7.

Overview
Introduction This chapter mainly describes to manage topology.

Configuring Map
Purpose This topic describes to configure map. All non-leaf nodes of each
topology view can provide different background maps to the
layers of its child nodes. If a father node is not appointed with a
background map, the map file customized by its ancestor node is
used. The system provides a default map file, which can be
customized by redevelopers. Supported map file formats include:
Common picture files (.jpg, .gif) and vector maps (.shp, .mif).
Prerequisites To configure map, meet the following requirements:

NetNumen N31 client is started.
Steps To configure map, perform the following steps.
1. Right-click the topology view and from the pop-up menu,
select Configure Map, as shown in Figure 21.
2. Select Import map file and set map range, click the OK
button.

Creating a Group
Purpose This topic describes to create a group in logical view.
Prerequisites To create a group, meet the following requirements:
NetNumen N31 server is started.
NetNumen N31 client is started.
Steps To create a group, perform the following steps.
1. Right-click the topology root in the logical view; and then
select Create Group from the pop-up menu, as shown in
Figure 25.

Modifying a Group
Purpose This topic describes to modify the name and description of a
group as needed.
Prerequisites To modify a group, meet the following requirements:
NetNumen N31 server is started.
NetNumen N31 client is started.
Steps To modify a group, perform the following steps.
1. Right-click the group to be modified in the topology tree or
topology view and from the pop-up menu, choose Modify
Group, as shown in Figure 28.
Deleting a Group
Purpose This topic describes to delete a specified group as needed.
Prerequisites To delete a group, meet the following requirements:
NetNumen N31 server is started.
NetNumen N31 client is started.
Steps To delete a group, perform the following steps.
1. Right-click the group to be deleted in the topology tree or
topology view and from the pop-up menu, choose Delete
Group.
Result: The confirm dialog box pops up, as shown in Figure
30.
Moving a Group
Purpose This topic describes to set a new parent group.
Prerequisites To set a new parent group, meet the following requirements:
NetNumen N31 server is started.
NetNumen N31 client is started.
Steps To set a new parent group, perform the following steps.
1. Right-click the group to be moved in the topology tree or
topology view and from the pop-up menu, choose Move
Group or NE.
Result: The Move Group dialog box pops up, as shown in
Figure 31.
2. Select the new parent group in Figure 31, and click the OK
button to exit.

Setting Rules
Purpose This topic describes to set rules of a group as needed.

and from the pop-up menu, select Set Rule.

Creating Virtual NE
Purpose This topic describes to create virtual NE as needed. NE is the
object which can be managed and operated in NetNumen N31
system, while the virtual NE is the object which can not be
managed, for example, the router produced by some companies.
Virtual NE is shown in the topology view as the icon.
Prerequisites To create virtual NE, meet the following requirements:
NetNumen N31 server is started.
NetNumen N31 client is started.
Steps To create virtual NE, perform the following steps.
1. Right-click in topology view, select Create Virtual NE from
the pop-up menu, as shown in Figure 38.
2. Fill in the items of the dialog box and click the OK button for
creation. The icon and name of created virtual NE can be
seen in the topology tree and topology view.

Modifying NE
Purpose This topic describes to modify NE parameters as needed.

Topology Management > Modify NE from the pop-up

Deleting NE
Purpose This topic describes to delete NE as needed.

Steps To delete NE, perform the following steps.
1. Right-click the NE to be deleted in the topology view, select
Topology Management > Delete NE from the pop-up
menu.
Result: The Management Confirm dialog box pops up, as
shown in Figure 42.
Moving NE
Purpose This topic describes to set new parent group for NE.
Prerequisites To set new parent group for NE, meet the following
requirements:
NetNumen N31 server is started.
NetNumen N31 client is started.
Steps To set new parent group for NE, perform the following steps.
1. Right-click the NE to be moved in the topology tree or
topology view, select Move Group or NE from the pop-up
menu.
Result: The Move NE dialog box pops up, as shown in
Figure 43.

2. Select the new parent node, and click the OK button to exit.
Note: The target parent node can be the group or NE, but,
the original node or sub node can not to be the parent node.

Creating a link
Purpose This topic describes to create a link as needed. In the cluster,
the system creates the links among different NE, but for non-
cluster, the links among different NE need to be set manually.
Prerequisites To create a link, meet the following requirements:

click the OK button for creation. The From NE and To NE
item must be filled in, the other items are optional. The icon,
name, the starting NE and ending NE of created virtual link
can be seen in the topology tree or topology view.
Note: Links can also be created by selecting directly virtual
NE:
Press <Ctrl> to select the NE which needs to create links.
Right-click in the selected NE, select Create Virtual Link.

Creating a pipe
Purpose This topic describes to create a pipe in the logical view.
Prerequisites To create a pipe, meet the following requirements:

button for creation. The Parent Node, Name, From NE and
To NE must be filled in, while the others are optional. The
icon, name, starting NE and ending NE of the created pipe
can be seen in the topological tree and topological view.
Note: Pipes can also be created by selecting directly virtual
NE:
Press <Ctrl> to select the NE which needs to create pipes.
Right-click in the selected NE, select Create Pipe.

Poll Configuration
Purpose This topic describes to configure poll.

Result: The Auto Poll Task Setting dialog box pops up, as
shown in Figure 75.

Customize tooltip
Select Customize Tooltip, as shown in Figure 84. There are
four kinds of information: Name Information, Description
Information, Alarm Information and Other Information.
Select the desired information, and click the OK button to
exit.
Customize alarm
Select Customize Alarm, as shown in Figure 85. Informing
alarm information while at the same time showing alarm
numbers can be optional. Configure Grade is to select the
alarm type desired to be informed. Through arrow can realize
the conversion between available Items and Selected
Items.
Other
Select Other as shown in Figure 86. Tree Configure and
Topology Configure are available. Click the OK button to
exit.

Deleting Template

Creating a Time-Report
Purpose
Daily report
Daily report is shown in Figure 130. Begin time, end time,
cycle in days, current times under Policy Customization
are set according to the requirements. Click the Add button
to insert triggering time as shown in Figure 130. Click the
Delete button to delete triggering time task. Click the Clear
button to delete all the triggering time tasks. Click the Next
button to proceed.
Weekly report
Weekly report is shown in Figure 131. Begin time, end
time, cycle in week, day of week, current times under
Policy Customization are set according to the requirements.
Click the Add button to insert triggering time as shown in
Figure 131. Click the Delete button to delete triggering time
task. Click the Clear button to delete all the triggering times
tasks. Click the Next button to proceed.
Monthly report
Monthly report is shown in Figure 132. Begin time, end
time, cycle in month, date, current times under Policy
Customization are set according to the requirements. Click
the Add button to insert triggering time as shown in Figure
132. Click the Delete button to delete triggering time task.
Click the Clear button to delete all the triggering times tasks.
Click the Next button to proceed.
Yearly report
Yearly report is shown in Figure 133. Begin time, end time,
cycle in year, date, month, day, current times under Policy
Customization are set according to the requirements. Click
the Add button to insert triggering time as shown in Figure
133. Click the Delete button to delete triggering time task.
Click the Clear button to delete all the triggering times tasks.

One-time report

save the batch command scripts on the current tab page to a file.

line terminal interface as shown in Figure 176.

Executing Scripts
Purpose This topic describes to execute scripts. This function allows users
to run the batch command scripts of the current tab page.
Scripts can have parameters and between the parameters,
spaces are used for separation. Character strings must be
surrounded by double quotation marks.

Select Command > Execute from the menu bar in the
Command Line terminal interface, as shown in Figure 179.
Help Commands
This section introduces two kinds of help.
Inductive Help
Purpose This topic describes to use inductive help. In order to make the
users familiar with commands syntax and formats, and decrease
the probability of inputting commands manually by mistake, the
system provides the inductive help function. The function
provides some basic command formats. Man-machine command
strings given by inductive help are configured in the command
description file.

Single Commands
This section describes operations for single command.
Manual Entry
Purpose This topic describes to input the single command manually on
the Single Command tab page.
Prerequisites
To input single command, meet the following requirements:
NetNumen N31 server is started.

Steps To input single command, perform the following steps.
Input the single command on the Single Command tab page,
as shown in Figure 183.
Graphical Input
Purpose This topic describes to input the single command graphically. It
may be a huge burden for the operators if they are asked to
learn all command IDs, command syntax and names of the
managed objects. Through man-machine command help,
however, users are able to query some basic information of the
operating commands.
Prerequisites To input the single command graphically, meet the following
requirements:
NetNumen N31 server is started.
NetNumen N31 client is started.
Steps To input the single command graphically, perform the following
steps.
1. Select Command > Graphic Input from the menu bar in
the Command Line Terminal interface, as shown in Figure
184.

If the command syntax is correct, then the Graphics Input
dialog box pops up, and switches to graphics input
automatically, as shown in Figure 187.

Setup Command
Purpose This topic describes to configure command line terminal setup.
The timeout time for asynchronous command execution is to be
configured. Besides, users can decide to abandon the execution
when a batch command has errors or not.

Steps To configure command line terminal setup, perform the following
steps.
1. Select Command > Setup from the menu in the Command
Line Terminal interface, as shown in Figure 191.
